Help! pannier lock removal!

Right then.. just bought a full set of 1150 ally panniers on ebay, talked to the seller and he's let the bike go with the keys, but not removed the lock barrels

The bike went to an auction house so there's no key ... is there a way to get the barrels out for re-keying without the key?

Sale hinges on whether its do-able

any of those help, wouldnt stop me from getting them if they right price

It looks from the pictures like the locks are all unlocked... but you need to lock the panniers to get the leaves in the right position to remove the barrel....

£500 for a complete set of 3 and frames, unmarked , seemed great if the key was with them, now its not looking so good ... its COD so no money handed over yet

If you've drilled the locks the locksmith won't be doing anything with them .

Don't touch the locks, and take the panniers to a locksmith. Take your own bikes ignition key so they can see the type and style of key and they'll cut a key to fit.

I took a pair of keyless but locked panniers to my local dealer, sat down with their huge tub of spare keys and tried each key until I found one that unlocked the panniers. Took the locks out and returned the keys to the dealer, no charge. No locksmith charge, no drilled (killed) locks. Took the locks home and re-coded them.

The locks aren't very secure so you can open them with a key that 'nearly' fits - all you need is a selection of keys to try with.

That's because the pannier locks don't have as many "leafs" as the ignition.

But that depends upon having the correct key so that the barrels can be removed. The original question was "What if there is no key...?"

Well, tried fiddling with the open locks and wasn't getting very far, as I couldn't find anything to slip around the barrel and spring in the locking wafer... so I had a root around the cupboard and found an old pannier key I'd forgot I had, and voila, a rough fit, good enough to turn the locks... then used a long needle to push down the locking wafer, then wiggle out

Strangely the wafers are slightly different to the newer ones, and the new ones were the spares I had

Managed to re-arrange the wafers in each one to make a good fit.. its left me with only 5 wafers in each lock instead of the 6 that were originally in them.. but they work so that's a bonus I tried the key that got me out of the cack originally and at least that doesn't work now I've keyed them to the ignition key ...
