bike shipping

howya I know it may seem a wee bit in the wrong direction, but myself and essjay from this site used http://www.2wglobal.com (over in southhampton)
to ship our bikes over to New Jersey in 2008...

They stop in Halifax on the way down to New Jersey... no crate needed which was the big thing for us.. and we packed our bikes out with all our camping crap

It took about 7 days.... if memory serves it was about 575 pounds..
they only reason they had to charge us the full 575, was that we took up a full car space on the ferry (its roll on , roll off)
they said they were bringing in bike spaces soon.. so it might be cheaper..

we rode over, and ryanair back from the local airport...

as I said .. might not suit you. but for the time and the money (plus no crate) it was great value for us...

Hi Joe

Worth checking with Roddy Warriner at James Cargo [email protected] Roddy is coming over to Enniskillen this year to give a wee talk on the whole business of transporting bikes. Knows his stuff. He does all the transporting of bikes for Globebusters and others.

Also check with Jamie in Hill Shipping [email protected] Another very helpful guy.

Might also be worth checking if there are RoRo operators into Halifax?

Also have a gander at the Horizons Unlimited site. Might even be worth putting up a question and see if any contacts or words of wisdom fall out of the tree.

And while my brain can think of it Joe.. if you make it to the other side of Canada... we flew the bikes home from Vancouver airport to Gatwick with AIR TRANSAT. Cost = $1500 Canadian dollars per bike.
Rode in.. they put the bikes into those shiny angled cargo boxes and that was it.. about 40 mins in total... so easy.. .and the same the other side.. best bike shipping experience ever.. and worth every penny.

But the reason why I mention it is that they have cargo bases all over Canada.
So if it was $1500 from Vancouver, it should be cheaper from the east coast.
