Help please "Whats This Do"

It's OK now, Thanks for all the replies, I've stripped the tank to rescue the missing part, have now got it, whilst I'm "In there" I'm changing the fuel filter which when reverse flow applied fuel came out black, the date on the side of the fuel filter is June 2003:eek:
As Matt says it's now turned in to a "Fuel Tank Sevice" and yes I do feel better having done it :-)

I think you'd have to be lucky.
Given the shape of the thing and what it's made of (i.e. smooth and round and plastic) it'll be impossible to hook or grab with a magnet

Snap on sell a plastic magnet.

If the filler cap O ring expands grease it up, put in place ( as best as possible) push down on it with the metal cover and rotate backwards and forwards at the same time and it "pops" into place. :thumb

Somebody had tried to glue the filler O ring in place and got glue everywhere, the o ring had expanded and showed no sign of shrinking back to size in sunlight, I've cleaned up the filler area and ordered new O rings for the filler and fuel pump plate plus a new fuel filter
The original Fuel Filter was date stamped 06/2003, Don't know if it was "New" old stock or was last changed in 2003 ! I opened it up for a peek and it didn't look to bad, I wonder if they can be cleaned simply by reverse flushing and maybe a puff with the air line ???

The date on the fuel filter is date of manufacture, not fitment.

Don't re-use it once you've opened it up, it has to be perfectly sealed to keep up the fuel pressure . If it leaks your bike won't run.

You must meet some Muppet's in your line of work Steppers but I,m not one of them:D
I had no intention of reusing the fuel filter :D and I know it's a manufacturing date stamp, I opened to be nosey, a new one's on order, maybe I could sell the old one on ebay:bounce1
My question regarding the date stamp was really to ask how likely is that a fuel filter marked 2003 has been sitting on a busy garage's self, I was told it had been changed this year

When I was doing my time Loose Head Len in the Transformer shop had what he called a Brass Magnet. Now all us smart arse lads knew better and scoffed at old Len about this. So he showed it to us, it was a long stick with a bit of sticky stuff on the end for picking up the brass nuts and bolts that would drop into the transformer housings when he was cleaning them.
