But before you refit I'd be more worried about making sure to drop the valves out and check for excessive guide wear

Optimol TA

Rob you recommend optimol ta rather than copper slip.
I have a tube of Liquid Moly LM47 MoS2 supplied by Sherlocks for splines.
Would this be suitable for exhaust nuts ?

I've always used copper-slip ( and I just crack open the header nut and re-tighten once a year ) and have never had any problems.

ok it sounds licke you have heads for 40mm exaust so just find sum 1mm thick piping the depth of your in serts I have done a simler thing on both my bickes I can post you a pichture whan I arive back to germany next week on one I dont even use the copper washers its licke what rob sugested with the taperd inserts !!! or you lob say 60 or 70mm of your headers and have 40mm piece welded back on thier !!!! but I wouldent go using exaust cement again on thier your just asking for problems next time you want to du some thing !!!
