Have you got the wiring diagram?

Otherwise I can email you one.

thanks
got the diagram, just thought someone may have had a similar problem and be able to point me in the right direction

cheers

Sounds like one of the fuses has gone they are under the left hand side panel
as I have had this before .
Cheers C'n'C

I recon my bike = g/s had a pair of fuses in a box with a center nut just under the pump hole in the frame under seat
if not that run a live to the bulb from battery and see if its an earth problem
Have you not got a multimeter to check the power at various points
HTHY :thumb2

cheers, have checked the fuses, there are only two of em tucked under the main top frame tube just in front of the tool box.

Mick, i tried running a temporary earth to the tail light unit but havent tried running 12v to the lamp.. good call

looks like its going to be a long day:blast

:blastm

Does your bike have a main relay.

sorry for the delay, been out most of the day sorting my daughters car

fuse box pulled out to examine..

i have 12v on the green to the fusebox

but nothing on the grey to the fusebox with the lights turned on at the ignition (headlight working)

the grey relay (nearest) pulls in when the headlight is turned on

got me baffled, it all looks bugger all like the wiring diagram i have:nenau

Had a similar problem on mine, water had entered the switch thro the key hole and corroded two of the crimps holding the plastic connector into the body,

So when I pushed the key in and turned it, it was pot luck which lights came on :blast

Certainly worth checking it out, good luck,

i am a bit closer...

the ignition switch is fine, i have 12v in and 12v switched out where it should

but i have found a short... something is going to ground???

unplugged the headlight and unplugged the rear lighting plug next to the battery
isolating the lights
the grey wiring fuse has grey going in and two connectors out, the double black/white (or black/grey) wire is going to ground and killing the lot

so with everything plugged back together it is grounding what should be the 12v to the lamps

where do the black/whites go:nenau they just dissapear into the harness going forwards

aaaaaarg!

Black and grey, from the fuse box number 58s, go to the parking lights.

The other side of fuse box number 58 goes to the ignition switch, to switch on p/lights,

hope this helps :thumb

had that kind of figured, took the parking bulb out and same result

am totally baffled (and a lot p"ssed off)

the wiring diagram that most matches my bike is in bloody german:blast
but hey mines a german market imported bike!

So if said Black/grey is going to ground and you can not find where, chop the bugger and run a new un...Simples:augie

Edit:: or you could strip off the cover and replace then rewind the cover, but i know what i would do on an olde bike :>)

A bloke once said to me electricity is simple , like water it follows the path of least resistance...

Biggest load of bullshit I've ever been told  :D:D

I hate auto electrics :anger :D

took me a while:augie but thats what happens when you aren't well and the motivation has gone down the pan...

"can't ride it so why bother fixing it!"

well i got sick of having all the bikes bits spread all over the workshop and finally got the bloody thing fixed today :clap:clap:clap

the problem was....

where the wires pass between front mudguard and bottom yoke then up into the bottom of the headlight surrond...

a snapped wire

and a nearly snapped wire. bastid! this was the one that had me fooled, it was broken inside the insulation so sometimes it passed current.. sometimes it didnt..... bastid!

anyway all fixed and ready to ride woo hoo
