Being new to this game (prev. sports bikes only), decided I needed some more relevant clothing etc. Are there any dealers out there who stock decent kit and actually have some staff who a: know their a#*e from their elbow and b: have attended a course of customer relations?!! Oh yes, and stock some kit that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! Tried a few dealers in the north Hants area and have come away emtpy handed for the above reasons. The kit I'm after is nothing special, 2-piece waterproofs (armoured pse, something like the Rallye 2 suit!), decent crosser/off road boots (Alpinestars vector ish), and head to toe for the missus. considering the expected costs, none were really willing to offer a deal of any note. Any advice on potential dealers/shops would be greatly appreciated.

Hein Gericke at Farnborough North Camp are pretty good. I've been in there a couple of times and their staff are every bit as knowledgeable as those in Bristol.
Plus it's right next door to Infinity so you can compare with other stuff.

I really like the Hein Gericke Voyager suit (mainly because I own one!). The Voyage Daylite is excellent although the colour is very much an accquired taste.

Happy shopping and welcome to the madhouse.

for reasonable price and good quality it has to be heine gericke voyager IMHO. However if you want to pay the 'extra' I can thoroughly recommend BwM Rallye II and GS-1 thermoplastic clogs and the boxer cup gloves:thumb

Sidi couriers for the old plates.....fair price and solid as hell.....comfy for walking around but tough enough to do the muddy stuff.......

I bought a BWM streetguard suit but I'm a tart.......previously I've had rukka stuff, but both types are dear...very very solid and secure feeling and unbeatable guarantees though...

The Gericke stuff is good......and as people have said, the staff all seem to be pretty good whatever branch you go into.

Altberg Boots

I've just received my first pair of Altberg boots. These have good feedback in the Rider Power surveys. The model I went for are Bandog All Weather, nice chunky boots, warm, waterproof and very comfortable on and off the bike (which most motocross style boots aren't). They probably aren't as protective as off-road boots, though. They look extremely well made.

I'd recommend them. I'd also reinforce what's been said about Hein Gericke in earlier replies - I have two of their jackets (Tuareg suit and Voyager Daylite) and have been pleased with them both.

Robin.

Boots

Caerne get my vote with the R X Despatch : sturdy enough when off road and easy enough to walk in when you have to.

I've just got some Hein Gericke kit... done about 1500 miles in them.
Tourag boots.. so far very pleased with them, so far dry, warm and comfortable.
Maxwell Goretex 2 suit.. initial problem with the jacket (after 30 miles) with split seams in both inner arms.. where fabric meets leather... replaced straight away... 1500 miles on.. no obvious problem but I'm keeping an eye on the seams. Nice and warm, waterproof, comfortable.. time will tell.

My 2 pence worth

the GS1 boots are fine for the star wars look! (they are Sidis so they are really very good, but....) I have alpinestars (tech 8) and they are well ard, but with the internal bootee very comfy. If you decide on something more road oriented, go for the Daytona Roadstar GTX. In the picos this easter I got so wet they were still wet on the outside the next morning, but never let a single microlitre of water inside (also more confy than most of your normal shoes).

There are a lot good jackets out there. Apart from quality you need to choose the kit for what use you´ll give it. type of riding, weather, and how it fits. The BMW Savannah " kit is pretty effective kit.
