Had wind problem on std 1200, fitted a Adventure screen, winglets and bought a Shoei multitec lid,if anything its gone worse !! Im 5ft 7", have low BMW seat and on motorway its a nightmare, ears still ringing from ride at weekend ! lots of info on same problem on site, thought this would be solution but problem still there and im almost £500 poorer !have tried at various settings but none work, what can i do as this problem is seriously spoiling my enjoyment on this bike, PLEASE HELP.

Try Tobinators - it sounds (snigger) like you're not getting enough air behind the screen. And try earplugs.

Oh - and can I have first dibbs on the Adventure screen :augie

I'd guess that your head is sitting right in the turbulence bubble that comes off the screen

I guess you've tried lowering the adv screen fully already with no improvement? Next step will be to take the screen off completely and see what the nosie is like. Probably less though you'll be out in the airflow more. Then you might try soemthing like this: http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/s...ession=touratech:C1C97D210a47c0F0B9GYk1C9BC2F or http://www.mv-motorrad.de/lshop,showdetail,26715,e,1208783570-26715,003,90606,,Tshowrub--003,.htm more expense, but you want everything to be ok.

It'd be cheaper and probably at least as effective to fit a Laminar Lip.

Other things to do: Fit the Shoei Whisper Kit to your Multitec and stop riding on boring motorways.

I think John is right. I just put an Adventure screen on my 08 GS and it solved my turbulence problem. The ride back from the dealership was the best ride that I have ever had on a GS and I have been riding them since 05.

If you're already on the low seat and are of smaller stature you should need lower settings on the screen than most, so right at the bottom would be a place to start.

Also, are you wearing earplugs? You should never get ringing ears with the correct plugs + turbulence, only a feeling of being beaten up.

Neil, I'm 5'-9" and have a similar problem and have started many threads on the subject. My problem has been only noise from buffeting not the buffeting itself.

I taken the following steps and have great improvement.

1. I fitted a laminar lip to the standard GS screen, then played for a week to get the best (quietest position). Cost was about 100 US$ incl. postage and took five days to arrive.
2. Got a Nolan N84 helmet as this was the quietest resonably priced helmet in a "sound of Silence test done on 18 helmets by Rider magazine. (it came in behind the Schubeths and BMW helmet all at over 300 quid)
3. bought a "windjammer" helmet seal off the net for 9 quid.
4. MOST important correctly inserted industrial type (cheap orrange foam type) ear plugs on every ride. To insert correctly you role the pointy end into a tight point then insert as far as possible (comfortably) into the ear, as they expand the seal the earwell for a much better noise barrier.

where I live I cant get custom made ear plugs els thats the way to go I think.

Than ha greatly redused noise. I havent tried torbinators, but know that has worked for a lot of people.

PS. for the laminar lip and windjammer just type the names into google and they come up.

I'm the same height as you and have made the same mods axcept for the winglets which will go on my 08 GS soon.

I also get buffeting and have tried the screen on all the settings to no avail. On the 1150 GSA I had similar issues untill I fitted Tobinators which eliminated all beffeting.

I should have my new set of Tobs today and will report back on the difference it makes on the 12GS. :thumb

I think that the only real solution to the turbulence is to duck down and move closer the screen.

The fundamental problem is the riding position which puts one too upright and too far away from the screen - I suspect that all 'adventure' bikes have the same issue.

The best compromise that I have found on my standard 2005 1200GS is to fit a Touratech spoiler and put the screen in one of the two lowest positions - this seems to get rid of most of the severe buffeting that happens with the standard screen in the higher positions.

Thanks for reply, will be interested to see what difference tobs make, please pm me with your views, regards Neil.

Hi, know what your problem is and my solutions is / was this I'm 5'8" I have low seat and have fitted GSA screen Winglets and Tobinators...Set scren to MAX !!!! hieght set tobers at position 3 or 4 think mine are still on 4, I use an Arai Tour x not the quietest of lids, I have recently returned from a run to Germany cruising at 90mph for many an hour and all was good enough, although I do wear in ear speakers for sat nav.I believe too that if you sit just that litle bit closer it goes even quiter but I have found great comfort with set up. hope its of some use..:thumb

Turbulence sorted like this, Nippy Norman winglets and a Givi screen set at one down from highest and seat low at the rear adjuster. 6'4".
Quiet wind free bubble at 85mph without crouching, visor up at 50. :thumb2

Hi Neil

Fitted the Tobs today and had a go on the motorway today. I used my T-X helmet fo the test. There was an improvement but it's not cured yet. I will play with different settings as time goes on but so far I'm left with a slight improvement. This cure is going to be expensive me thinks.:eek:

Next Mod is winglets:nenau

Fitted a laminar lip yesterday and let the glue pads set overnight. I tried a variety of heights with tape as suggested by the instructions, but found this to be a waste of time. Using tape, the lip is not held securely in place, so at any reasonable speed the buffeting gets worse because of the screen movement. In the end I settled for the lip in a high position (higher than the position shown is post 4 here), with the top glue pad fairly close to the top of the standard GS screen.

I am 6'4" with the standard seat on high position. With the GS screen I got a lot of noise / turbulence straight at the visor, really noticable at 60+ mph. Top screen position was always best, lower positions seemed to increase the noise but not lower the impact point on the helmet much.

With the laminar lip fitted, the noise / turbulence is definitely better with the screen set in a trial position 1 notch below top. It seems logical that with the extra kick up on the top edge of the lip, a slightly flatter screen position would work better. There is still some noise but much improved protection from the air blast.

I will try a few more settings and see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. I might try tobinators to let a bit more air under the screen to quieten things down a bit if it is still bothering me, and these might also raise the screen enough to run it in a slightly flatter position. Another option is the Saeng edging which might also clean up the airflow a bit.
