Help! Tea meets Laptop

Can anyone give me a suggestion as what to do with a laptop(HP) that had about quarter of a mug of tea by accident spilt on it?

It is the wifes work computer and she is. It is less than 3months old.

It will not switch on at the moment. The wifes sister who is the culprit tried to dry it with a hairdryer. Right or wrong thing to do?

I'd take it aart as much as possible (google the model up, there are lots of oddballs who take them apart for fun and publish the guides ) then just leave it in an airing cupboard for a few days.

DO NOT turn it on it attempt to until it's dry.....you run the risk of shorting things out etc......

You can get cans of electrical contact cleaning spray designed for cleaning up PCB's etc from Mapplins for about 6-7 quid......that would help if you can expose the mobo enough to get access to it.

Wouldn't have thought many warranties would cover tea damage

Might be worth checking house insurance though...or if it was bought on a credit card it could be covered by them

i dropped my laptop and cracked the screen and they fixed it for me........just play stupid take it back to shop or what ever and say .........erm it aint workin and i have no idea why...............always works for me..........................

My wife took out an insurance policy on it and it does cover accidental damage, so now i think it is a matter of trying to decode their version of accidental damage and make a claim.

I would have thought that a laptop is going to be used in many different enviroments due to it being portable so the insurers should see a lot of claims for liquid 'accidents'. Just a matter of wording now i suppose.

I see alot of people using laptops on aeroplanes and i imagine in turbulent conditions quite a few get liquid spilt on them so it would not be a new phenomenon. I also can think of lots of work situations, office included, so we will have to see.
