Please can any of you technical Gsrs give me some help on removing the petrol tank on my 2002 Adv?

I have got an old 1150 manual which shows the component parts and in my head thought would be same as mine..(Wrong) So I have managed to do the following so far.

Split the breather and overflow lines.
Un plug fuel pump.
Clamp the two fuel lines.

I then got stuck as I noticed a line running between the left and right side of the tank (I assume this is a leveling line) However now unsure how to split this as it looks as though it will prevent me lifting tank clear if left in place.

I am also unsure of where to brake the fuel lines?
And as I have never seen the posh BMW jubilee type clips before begs me to ask another couple of questions.. Like how do you get them undone /off? and can they be re used?

Help apreciated.

The 3rd fuel line runs fron left to right, there should be quick fuel disconnect on the r/h side of the tank, possibly just forwards of the removeable black plastic panel.

Disconnect & lift tank.

Installation is reverse except hat you'll have to thread the 3rd line through from the left over the top of the engine.

Thanks Steve,

there is a device but not sure how this works.

Looks like it has a silver push tab.. In fact there are two similar ones on the feul lines.

So simple question how do these release?

Sorry to be numpty.

When you come to replace it, a bit of wire around the balance pipe and threaded through across the top of the engine makes getting the pipe back into place much easier.

Tank removed ... That was so easy amazing when you know how.

Really apreciate the help.. can now replace dud battery and get back to  riding

Anyone got any pics of that?.... I took my 1150 GS tank off today to change the fuel filter. I'd read that you could rest it on a covered chair to protect the tank from damage.... what they didnt say was that the fuel lines dont stretch that far and to do it all single handed you need to be a bit of a houdini ...:D .... so all back together for another day.

And there I was soberly driving home on the M3 with a near empty tank to make things easier.... chancing my luck a bit I know. and which now looks like I'll have to do it all over again.

Just how many miles have you managed to get with the fuel light ON???
I'm up to 30!!!

You've got to disconnect the fuel lines to change the fuel filter -

the instructions above are only for tanks with Q/D connectors, you may have the screw connectors on your tank

Thanks Steptoe... will take a closer look before attempting it next time

Andy,
Just push in the silver button and pull apart the connector,

:nono Not mine sir!!

Tried to get me tank off again last w/end to re-route some autocom stuff and I just couldn't get the QD in the balance pipe apart......even held with clamps with the silver thumb thing pushed hard down the bugger wouldn't break open for me.

bumpooarse!!!!!
