Help with Big Round Things

Does anyone know what the big round items on each side of this modified GSA are. It's been bugging me since I saw the photos!

I dont like the look though but I'm sure someone will.

the stock air filter is tiny for a bike of this capacity, would be interesting if thats on both sides ?

the was one place touratec or wunderlic used to make twin air inlet pipe, but would be almost useless as the filter is an utter joke, I can imagine with other appropriate mods will make significant difference.... and if one actually rode in a dusty environment you'd notice the stock filter blocked inside 10 minutes
