Did a brilliant short notice trip to the Gower peninsular this weekend. Didn't leave home (from Ashby de la Zouch) till four, and camp was set and we were ordering our fresh sea bass in the restaurant in Rhossili at 8.45

I'd quickly plotted a route via Worcs; Herefords; Brecon beacons and it turned out to be a fantastic route.

After a full breakfast in a cafe overlooking the sea at about 9.00am we headed back.

First time ever that I thought I'd try the reverse route option on my Quest, but I can't seem to make it work correctly.

All it did was just draw straight lines through my waypoints from Rhossili to home, so pretty useless really. It's as if it was plotting an 'offroad' route, but that was not what was input or specified, and the route down worked perfectly.

I didn't alter any other option on my Quest (1) so what did I do wrong?

We found the way alright, but can someone enlighten.

I can fully recommend the Gower Pen. to anyone who hasn't been there: It's very beautiful and very unspoilt.

Unsure if this will help, as I use a GPSMAP 60C but

is there not something about having to select 'auto routing info' when you transfer map tiles to the unit, if this isn't done then the unit will just select straight lines between the waypoints, as I had the same problem but using Metro Guide V8 however it turned out this MGv8 doesn't autoroute, so the problem sounds the same.

Have you tried MetroWizzz? Works very well with Metroguide Europe V8 apart from giving slightly misleading audio instructions at round-abouts but then you won't have that problem with a 60C

Will, I've just tried doing this with my Quest and you're right. I always thought that it would automatically recalculate though TBH honest I always plot a return route as well as the out leg anyway. What you'll need to do, having selected 'reverse route', is press the menu key again and select 'recalculate'. Now when you click on 'Navigate' it will re-calc the reversed route for you.

Heeelp

So have none of you many Quest users ever used the 'reverse route' function..... either with or without success?

When you select the 'recalculate' option after reversing your route there appears to be an option to 'not ask in the future', not sure how you reset this once you've opted for it. I would imagine that the reverse route will automatically recalculate if your have 'off route recalculate' set to anything other than off in the 'Settings' > 'Route Setup' screen using the routing preferences there.
