Just been into Somerfield to have a look at the garmin, guess what all sold out, but they did have a Medion with pda built in, question is , is it worth it over the garmin, has a larger card, rechargable batteries bigger screen,
In other words should I buy one??
Help please.

Cheers Paul

Medion won't be waterproof, or as well supported as the Garmin. I think if you search for Medion on the forum, you might get a few hits. If it was just for the GS, or rather, just for outdoor use, I would go for the Garmin unit. If it was mainly for the car, with occasional use on the GS, I'd consider a Medion / other PDA style unit.

Yeah but... no but...

Somerfield are offering the Garmin i3 which isn't waterproof so you'd face the same problems whichever one is chosen.

Aah. Right.

I em not in zher UK, so I am not knowing vot zhey are shelling in zhe shops zhere. As they say over here.

Thanks guys, wanted a unit that I could swap from cars to bike, when required, think its approx £129, so not that much more expensive, would also like speed camera locations if possible, will have another look today if any left, only one box on the shelf earlier, if its sold decisions been made for me :(

No rain in my car - Garmin i3 for car and Quest for bike.

Both together have cost me only £180 new

I bought the Medion GPS thingy yesterday, seems ok to me. I know it's not waterproof, so I promise not to take any pics of it in a fishtank, :D but it's ok for the money and as a first GPS tool. And it has a larger screen than the Garmin i3 :geek:

BTW, they had about 8 in stock in Somerfields Ponardawe store this morning :thumb

bought one at last

Just to let you know, went and bought one yesterday also, checked on fleabay before going, and most are selling for £160-190 +p&p, so got to be worth it (if not sell on fleabay also) Nearly changed my mind several times on the way to buy it thinking, waste of money?? or realy useful??

Seems a bit complicated at first but I'm sure all are like this if not used one before?? Got to go out in the car today, so will try it there on a first run out and look at waterproofing it for use on the bike, if I can get on with the unit ok today.

BTW whats wrong with a plastic bag over these units when on the bike, or is it not the done thing, and I will get laughed off the road??? :nono

Cheers Paul

I've seen the Medion in action and was impressed.

Personally I don't think there's anything wrong with using a plastic bag over it, just make sure you tailor it nicely to fit :D

Who gives a shit what others think, as long as you're happy with it that's all that matters! :thumb

.......... and if you want something a little more impressive than a plastic bag, then there's always the Otterbox or a similar solution :thumb

BTW, at first glance, the Somerfield Medion thingy does look a little overcomplicated, but with a little familiarisation, it's OK. It even works in my car with it's athermic windscreen, (which the Garmin V never did). The directions are clear and concise and, overall, I'm very impressed! £129 well spent!!! :thumb
