Help with wires to hook up a Navigator IV to a 2012 R1200RT

Hello,

I would like to hook up a Navigator IV to my 2012 R1200RT and have no instructions as it came off another bike.
There are two connectors coming off it (and I understand the 3 pin connector is for sound, which I will not use.)

That leaves the two pin connector which I need to plug somewhere into the bike harness. By the way, my two pin connector has a removable black cap on it that converts it from a two pin male connector to a two pin female connector.

Can anyone tell me where in the bike harness I can find the connector to plug this two pin connector into? And what panels need to be taken off to access the harness.

And also whether I will need the removable black cap that is on the that converts it to a female connector?

Hi the aux power socket you need is up near the headstock,left hand side as you face the bike.
It's probably got a blank plug fitted,just remove it and plug the Nav lead in and job done.

I am a car guy so am not familar with where the "headstock" is. Is it near where the headlight is??

And do you mean "left side", from the position where I sit on the bike, or left side where I am in frnt of the bike looking at the headlight?

Do I have to take off some panels to access the headstock??

As you stand in front of the bike looking at it you are looking for a small oblong shaped connector, usually with a cap on it - with rounded corners IIRC. its in the area between the left hand fork tube and the fairing. It will probably be taped up with lots of other wires and will be awkward to see as its in a small dark area. Give yourself a BIG clue, look at the shape of the plug on your sat nav. Your looking for something with the same shape but just a little bigger..

PS. the headstock is where the forks attach to the rest of the bike.

PPS. I don't mean this nastily, but if your not bike orientated, should you do this yourself ?. Let a knowledgable bike mate do it.

I am a car guy and an Electrical Engineer. I rebuilt and do all the mechanics on my E-Type except bodywork and interior. (Yes we have that iconic car here in the Colonies!). I started riding about 14 years ago, then got a K1200GT and now have a K1300S. BMWs are awesome. I do all the maintenance myself and have done mechanics like change the cam chain tensioner, cam chain guard, install an airhorn etc.

So rather than fumble around and spend a lot of time learning from scratch, Forums allow me to do these projects!

On my 2012 (non-Audio) RT, the NN lead would plug in to a socket which has 2 wires (Red/White & Brown).

This photograph shows 3 sockets, (may be different on a bike with Audio) but the power socket is the top one.

Sockets with caps in place & cable tied to framework.
