Help me pleeeeeeeeeeeese, before I throw the wifes laptop through the window!

I've managed to, finally, get a picture on the 'Test' forum. The pictures are saved on the hard drive. Olympus 'Camedia' software.

Having looked at other posts on the subject I reduced the size of the snap down to 640/480, but I kept getting 'This file is too big' message at the bottom. I eventually managed to get one picture on by further reducing it to 600/450. I then tried others, but had to make them even smaller. However, the picture quality is, too put mildly, crap.

What 'am I doing wrong?

Any help would be much appreciated.

(Going to the pub, back later)

what are you using to reduce the size of your pics?

try using irfanview. it's free & top choice round here.

The image should be savewd as a jpg and adjust the "quality" to get a smaller file size.

Can't remember if the Camedia software does that as I haven't bothered loading it. Perhaps there is an option to "save for web" or for email? That's what gets the reduced quality/size.

Don't worry, the reduction in image quality has to be pretty drastic to be noticeable.

Watch out for the new FAQ on photo posting - due out soon

Thanks chaps.

Down loaded 'irfanview' and reduced size to 640/480 which looks perfect. I even managed to save it to a file and find it again, but when I try to put it on the forum it still says it's too big! I even went to half size, 320/240, but that didn't work either. I'm a bit of a computer numpty, but it can't be that difficult!

Been trying for hours and to be honest I getting a little bit cross:mad:

Any ideas:confused:

The maximum file or picture size is 125kb......so you'll need to adjust the settings to get below that.

As has been said already, it's largely trial and error.....you can have bigger pictures at worse quality or smaller ones at better.......depends on what looks best to you.

Also, take the pic back into photoshop or paint or whatever, and crop it so you remove any unnecessary bits.....you can then leave the main subject of the pic larger.

PS it's ten past 1 now...if you're still here (and the front page says you're still on the site at least), whack it over to me..... fanum*at*ukgser.com and i'll have a look see what i can do before i go to bed.

Must have dozed off, woke at 0230. I'll have another go today.

I'VE GONE IT!!! Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I hadn't saved is as a 'zip file' There'll be no stopping me know. Thanks for the help guys.
