Anyone got an opinion on H&B luggage and their quick release system? I'm thinking about getting a set of their alu expedition boxes. Just wondering if they're likely to part company with the bike at the slightest whiff of a bump... :nenau

Just done a big trip with the H&B Gobi panniers... ffffantastic. The Gobi's are double skinned plastic and 'crash' much better than alloy's!

A good fall and the panniers will come off... but go back on again, or at the very least they're dead easy to strap back on again! If they don't come off you might end up bending the 'bike!

Picture of girlfriend Sue in Mongolia with H&B Gobi panniers... she begged me to take the picture, and had to get on a passing lorry to the next town. (His drunken mate rode the bike in for us!) Twisted ankle... couldn't ride for a week!

Cheers Micky I was looking at the gobi's as well but didnt know if they'd stand up well, i'll give em a serious look.

Joe Dakar at Wunderlich went down the road at about 80mph with the Gobi's, saw the panniers afterwards. Still fitted, still in shape, still watertight, albeit the outer skin was errr mmm worn through. Alloys would have been in a right mess... Gobi's for me every time.

When Sue broke down in Mongolia we actually stood her bike on the top of one of the Gobi's to haul it up onto the back of a wagon. Didn't even mark it. You can carry a couple of litres of water between the two skins... or add sand for ballast :D

All the best :thumb
