Probably in the office. Again.
Went out for a run on the Pan yesterday, only to discover the rear brake ain't a lot of use. It'll stop me turning the rear wheel by hand, but it doesn't have a lot of effect when the bike's moving.

I've been spraying duck oil around the place and may have got some on the disk, but can't see it would still be playing up having cleaned it thoroughly with meths. I need new pads anyway, so I'll do those this week, but is this likely to be something else like a fecked cylinder of a sticking piston?

The rear brake on the pan also applies the front brakes it feeds one of the three pistons on each front caliper make sure they are not stuck :thumb

MMC what version Pan is it? (ABS / 1300 / etc)
My 1998 "R" reg. Pan had atrocious brakes, that needed a strip down at least once a month to unstick / clean them. To improve the rear brakes give EBC sintered pads a try if you havn't done so yet, they make the rears much better.
If its an ABS model be warned, the ABS master unit is somewhat expensive to replace.
We'll probably get a public flogging for all this foreign talk....LOL

Edit...Not all Pans have linked brakes, so the above reply from KTMMark may not affect you.

Pans do suffer from sticking caliper pistons but a clean up every Spring usually is enough to keep them in good order. I recently noticed that my rear disc was much hotter than usual so dismantled the rear caliper and after cleaning, re-assembled the pistons using Renolit Red Rubber Grease. This stuff costs about £5.99 a tub which will last for decades. It's not easy to find either. Your average motor factor will not have heard of it.

A very weak brake can also be traced to the brake pedal siezing up!!,
Strip o/side alloy casting and brake arm and clean and regrease pedal and pivot assembly..
worn out pads also mean the piston travel is excessive!!,,=clean pistons and pivots and replace pads with new,,change brake fluid also make good sence!!.
Good luck,,

Thanks chaps - that's very much appreciated. I'm getting a new set of pads this lunchtime, and hoping to get 'em fitted tonight. Hoping that'll sort it.

For the record, mine's a 1996 (P), TCS and ABS.
