Steve

I stopped going to the GP when I realised that I got a better perspective on the race by watching it on TV.

Get yourself posted somewhere near Farm or Village - it's going to be fecking awesome through there!!

:D

Greg

Greg - I can now make this. We won't now be going to see F1 qualifying as well as the race, so I'll see you at SBW on Saturday for 08:30.

:beerjug:

Would have loved to have joined you all but my bike is in having the gear lever shaft replaced after my last tumble :augie

Hopefully see you on the next run.

out

will join you if I may see you at the meeting point .

Typical, rideouts, just like buses.

Greg, can't make this one as I'm away (Riding with Desert Rose at Hereford) and Husaberg is in bits. Bearing that connects to water pump is passing a bit of oil.

Hopefully I'll be able to make the next one. Have a good one :thumb

out

good ride out until that fecking water ,two bikes soaked drained them and they started . then the oil turn to milk shake chocolate I think, pushed a husaberg up and down the road a few times just for fun in the sun . thanks for a good day out hope the rac took you home milkey:augie:augie:augie

Well the day started well enough. Met up with Dave Emsley, bakerlonglegs and halfpint at SBW as planned. Out to Ware and a couple of lanes before the wet stuff began.

Barwick ford was taken in our stride. Latchford 1 ford and Latchford 2 ford in similar style - even though the water was deeper than expected.

On to the notorious Standon ford. Without an eyeball recce, Dave led the way on his big 950 Super Enduro R. I was hard on his heels on the 'Berg. Both bikes were burbling well under water and emerged unscathed on the north shore. I left mine running for a few minutes to make sure all was well.

But I turn around and see Andy and Pete pushing their mounts through:

Words of guidance and encouragement were hailed from the safety of dry land:

Unfortunately both bikes had ingested a fair bit of water, so much stripping of air-boxes and spark-plugs then followed:

Bemused dogs looked on.

When all was reassembled, Andy's KTM was proving difficult to start and the battery was eventually flattened before the bike responded to a kick.

Unfortunately my 'Berg now decided that it was its turn not to start - I now suspect that some water was sucked up the carb breather (even though I had replumbed the breather pipes according to the Timolgra wisdom). Much pushing and grunting wouldn't get the bike running for more than a few seconds.

Meanwhile Andy had discovered that his bike had shipped large quantities of river water into the engine bowels and a milky emulsion had formed:

Andy decided that his should get his bike recovered to his home - and as mine still wouldn't run, we repaired to a nearby pub for drinks, nosebag and the attendance of the RAC.

After about 45 minutes, the RAC turned up (in a van - no trailer!) so I blagged his jump-starter and got mine fired up.

We left Andy to await his recovery and set off for Violets Lane in Pelham Furneaux. Well feck me if the entire lane wasn't bone dry. I've never seen that before. But what I did see were the huge ruts which will catch out unwary bikers when the whole lane is in its usual underwater state.

A loop around Hertfordshire lanes and we were back at SBW by 3pm for our farewells.

Are you home yet Andy?

Greg

Carry a very thin 17mm spanner to drain the carb.
Cable tie a piece of fuel pipe round the frame in front of the air filter and fill any gaps with silicon to help stop water getting pushed into the filter:)

Looks like you had a good day:D

Greg

Yep. The recovery wagon finally turned up at about 2:45 - you lot were probably home before I was. I could have had fish n chips twice, and double ice cream to follow.....

The emulsified oil has now been drained off, pending some oil flushes next week. Another lesson learned, as usual for me, the hard way :blast :D

Oily mess notwithstanding, it was a enjoyable trip out. Cheers for arranging the ride and posting the pics :thumb2

standon ford 3 ktm 950se 1

KTM exc's dont do water !
The 950 was struggling for grip the slightest twist of the grip had the back wheel stepping out. (though didnt stop me nailing it along side the old bourne past the little pogo's :augie)

Despite standon ford ive never seen Herts lanes so dry. i think i breathed in a couple of kilo's of dust.

It was so warm the 950 was starting to seriously over heat being held up by the little pogo's :augie, ive never seen so many flashing lights on the instrument panel. A clear run down the A10 soon cooled it down. I discovered i had disconnected the fan by mistake when I fitted the new tank :blast

Good to meet fellow tejeda's
A fun day thanks Greg
