Hertfordshire green laning this Sunday (22nd Nov)

And my belated apologies too. Late night last night and forgot to set the alarm:blast. Interested if you're doing it again though.

Cheers

Dave

What a great day, met up with Greg, Paul and Nick at BMW in Hertford, thanks for the welcome and coffee.
Headed off into Hertfordshire, led by Greg, very soon it became quite clear that the plan for the day was submarine diving :augie
:eek:Went down the ford at Furneaux Pelham, just about managed to stay upright, with all the recent rain it was bloody deep :eek
Went down some great fast lanes around Welham Green and Newgate street, had my work cut out trying to keep up with a 450 Husaberg and 450 BMW, would love to see the owners face when he sees the colour of the BMW demo bike!

It was good to meet you all, look forward to doing it again. :beerjug:

Found out today that Seal Skinz socks don't work if you pour the water over the top of them, maybe they do a waist height version :D

I would loved to have joined you but my aqua lung is in for repair!
Was it a tad too damp for piccies?

Greg must have an outboard motor fitted to his Husaberg !!!

Great day, but I was soaked to the skin by the time I got home.

Everyone is pretty wet by now (and it hasn't even started to rain).

Just four of us make the ride - Paul, Dave, Nick and me. Here are the lads (with SBW Dealer Principal Stephen Crowder) before the off and whilst the bikes are still clean:

Dave's bike needs 10 minutes rest before it will restart, so I try the G450X and Paul tries the Husaberg:

We each prefer our own bikes!

At Latchford No1 ford, Paul shows how it's done:

Then Nick:

Then Dave...

.... who stalled in the middle:

Then Standon ford.

I take the Husaberg through.

As he's riding a 70 mile old bike, Paul decides that discretion is required:

Then we arrive at the infamous Furneau Pelham ford:

Paul dips his toe in:

Ahead slow:

Nick seeks the smooth water:

Paul cruises through:

Then it all goes wrong for Nick with the bike stopped and Nick's leg trapped between bike and bank:

Paul wades in to assist:

Midday light drizzle got us slightly damp.

A whole herd of deer crossed the road just a few feet from us. Of course, by the time I got my camera out again, they'd all but gone.

Thanks for the great day chaps!

Just thought that I would mention this as it doesn't happen very often.
Greg, Paul and myself were sitting at the end of the last trail, somewhere at the back of Hertford, talking bikes and saying our goodbye's when a young lady pulled up in a car and stopped to thank us for earlier in the day when some trail bikes stopped at the side of the road and cut the engines to let the horses go by safely. She pointed out that most people moan when the bikes go flying past but don't say a word when the riders are courteous so she wanted to make a point of saying thankyou, we then went on to have a conversation along the lines of, it's a big countryside which we can all share together.:thumb2

Great pictures Greg, and nice to hear we were appreciated and thanked by the group of horse riders.

P.S. I was soaked to the skin and absolutely frozen by the time a got home. I think I took home half a river in my boots!

Are you sure you didn't go to Cumbria :D

It looks like it's just as well I forgot to set my alarm, I think the GSA would have drowned ! And would have been a handful compared to the kit in the pictures.

Hopefully next time Greg, although if it rains I may oversleep on purpose :augie

Could be persuaded

Hi all, only saw this thread today.......probably good looking at depth of water!

Live locally near St A so be good to go out on similar rides - please include me on next invite - will make it if poss. Got 800gs so bit heavier but worth a go.
