Hertfordshire Wombat Hunt - Sunday 19 March 2006

If you click on the 'tracks' tab like i did for that screenshot, you'll see the tracks it has ...then you can view them by selecting one, right clicking on it and selecting 'show on map'.

If you don't see that screen, lok for a small arrow in the top left hand corner of the window and click that.....

Well I have my unit connected at the moment, and what you say makes sense. Well what I mean is the programmable routes make sense. ie plot on a map your route with w/pt's and upload to the unit.

Say for example the Herts ride out, I had my gps on all the time and when I got home I tried to save the route we had done on the unit, but it was not highlighted as an option. Should I have just plugged it in to my laptop when I got in before switching the unit off? Would this have given me the route we had all ridden that day?

Doing that from my unit gives me these tracks from that period.....

ACTIVE LOG 045 331 17/03/2006 12:07:44 0:53:55 57.7 mi 377 sq km 64 mph
ACTIVE LOG 046 201 17/03/2006 13:14:44 0:33:14 37.5 mi 43.8 sq km 68 mph
ACTIVE LOG 047 48 19/03/2006 09:19:38 0:05:15 2.4 mi 0.6 sq km 27 mph
ACTIVE LOG 048 930 19/03/2006 09:26:17 2:37:39 67.1 mi 363 sq km 26 mph
ACTIVE LOG 049 235 19/03/2006 12:04:30 1:37:28 10.9 mi 21.9 sq km 7 mph
ACTIVE LOG 050 1047 19/03/2006 14:56:20 2:29:44 68.2 mi 238 sq km 27 mph

If I then select the ones from the 19th and right click and select 'show selected tracks on map', I get this;

Fanum,

Your a star :thumb

I realised that I had not enabled what the laptop would recieve from the unit

None of the boxes were checked. I now have all the routes I have done.... to blo0dy many though

Going to sort through them now to delete the to and from work rubbish.

That obviously shows all my tracks from the day, from Dartford to Sth Mimms then on the wombat hunt, but I could zoom in and isoltae the actual off road bits. (And another going up the M11 but we won't talk about that ;) )

A new track on a gps unit is created each time it gets turned on or off....I can't seperate out that day any closer than I have in that pic 'cos my GPS was on constantly from the time we left the pub to when I got home, but you can start a new track log by turning off and on or by selecting new track from the unit....

You can also see some useful info from the data in the track...our average speed over a section for example, its length and its distance etc.

HTH..ask away if it doesn't ;)

That is brill mate, my average speed over the whole day was 14mph

Obviously it was zero when I stalled in the river :D

This is where it starts to get interesting once you understand the basics.

Thanks again for your help :thumb

Gregg... I have a message from Mapsource that says " the file cannot be read because it uses a subsequent file version. This program can read MPS files as well as GDB files version 1.0 and below"

Jon

Open Mapsource with your PC hooked up to the net. Hit Help and Check for software update .... Follow the on-screen instructions and it should load MapSource 6.10.2.

Here's the route again - try this when you've done it:

hopefully will try the route tomorrow, lets see how two novices cope, anyone else going to be out on the route?

I shalln't be joining you but, this time of year, be careful with the Standon ford and the Furneux Pelham ford.

The first could be quite deep (keep close to the trees) - the second is quite long and has some hidden deeper parts.

Enjoy!

Greg

Furneux Pelham is looking a bit wet at the moment

could have been worse, could have been me

Not from my point of view.... :blast

Thanks for your help SSS, dismantling the bike to clean the water out the cylinders and after two oil changes this afternoon, the oil looks... well, oil coloured again.

It was a great day and an interesting introduction to green lanes. :thumb2

Look forward to the next one... :hide
