Anyone know if the HES for the twinspark 1150 is the same as the one for the single spark.

Donor bike is a 2005 and mine is a 2001. I want to keep the HES as a spare but don't want to get caught out in the field if they are different.

Looking on the web the main difference seems to be the plug. How easy is it to look at the plug? Any help appreciated.

There's only one part listed on Motorworks' site.

I do know that there are at least two versions though, one with 4 wires and one with 5......I was told by the guru that they are interchangeable, but the 5 wire one I put onto my bike which used to have a 4 wire version did not work.
Then again, the previously working 4 wire version subsequently didn't work when I refitted it :blast

My understanding is that all 1150s are the same with 4 wires.

The 1100 had 5 wires, the 5th being a shield wire which was discontinued on the 1150. But either can be made to work.

Of course I may be wrong:D

Is it easy to get in and look at the connector. IE just remove the black plastic cover and look at it or does the alternator wheel need to come off.

Piece of piss.

Lift the tank....no need to take it off.

The HES to ECU connection is on a flat bracket at the back of the wiring system (That big mess of connectors behind and slightly lower than the headstock, under the hump at the top of the tank area IYSWIM)......it lies horizontally under the bracket, with a rectangular plastic piece that you twist through 90 degrees to align it with the rectangular hole in the bracket.

It's a pinch type connector.....pinch the releases at both short sides of the block and it pulls apart easily.

Nice one mate. Easier than I thought.

I don't think so....

I have three in the shed......all are the connector type 'b' from the diagram above, all came from 1150s (One was my original, 4 wires, the second was its replacement , 4 wires, and the third was the one I got from Ash which was his spare before he sold his lebbenfiddy and that has 5 wires.)

Neil posted about that in one of my "woe is me my bike's fukked' threads, and ISTR that he said there are two types for the 1150 but both should work.

No idea what the 5th wire is for :nenau

It's got to be the shielding ?

1 - Shield
2 - Lower sensor output
3 - Ground -
4 - 12v +
5 - Upper sensor output
6 - Not used

There's only two things to think about - Do i have an 1100 or an 1150 HES -

They use different plugs, so you don't even have to think too much about that.

Why all the drama ? Why do people love making simple things over complicated.

And Bill. Your advice about finding the plug only applies to the 1150 model, not the 1100.

Well there we go. Thats that one answered then. All 1150s have the same HES. Jobs a good un.

The same HES and the same plug, but different wiring and the leads are built differently.

Nobody has yet been able to explain why there are 5 wires on one, 4 on another, although the 5th wire IS the 'shield' wire.......
