Thanks for your quick response.
Have soldered a long time ago but have no iron, so will probably just use connectors both end. Might be back with a question about routing the wires when I get down to it!

Thanks again

Just a quick question. I'm gathering the parts to wire the lights through an Ezcan. As it's working through the canbus, I won't need a fuse, correct? I'm going with 17 gauge wire, unless someone tells me not to!

Also, could anyone who has bought an Ezcan from the US or SA say what the import duties are and whether there is a big difference in price?

Correct, no inline fuse required as ezCAN has this already and you can set the fuse rate via the laptop when setting up. Guage of wire.... take a look at the lights as they may have a recommendation on the packaging/instructions etc but you shouldn't have any issue. Import duties are about £45. I got mine from US dealership so not sure about SA. :beerjug:

Thanks. No instructions in the lights box but they are the same ones you have.

Right, mind made up, I'm getting an ezcan!

There are people on this forum that bought from www.ice-tags.co.za in SA, maybe they can put it in a post as to how much their import duty was.

Just had a better look at the wires eminating from the lights. They are 2x0.5mm, which as far as I can see equate to 20AWG. Would it harm to connect them to the 17AWG (2x1.0mm) that I had in mind to run the rest of the way back to the Ezcan connector, just for some extra peace of mind? By my reckoning the draw is below 2 amps so I know this is probably over cautious.

Shouldn't be an issue... when i did my test i used some old 8amp (Halfords cheap and cheerful) wire to connect the light to the ezCAN and a bit of electrical tape to hold the wires together. :D

Of those of you who have an Ezcan has anyone had issues getting the device to connect to their laptop via the USB? Mine lights up the LED but persists in telling me that it's not connected :blast. I sent off log files to the support team but wondered if anyone else had had any problems?

I had that. So I connected it to the laptop whilst it had power on from the bike. Worked ok then. Mine seemed to need the ignition on to connect.

I seem to recall you saying that somewhere so I waited until it was connected to the bike. So with power is how I have tried it but I'm still getting the 'connect your device via the USB' message. Thanks for replying though.

No issues for me.

Unplug usb, plug back in, switch ignition off and back on and leave on, it should power on. Ensure the correct comport is used accordingly.

When you refer to comport what do you mean? I know it's communication port so do you mean the USB socket?

Ice tag, thanks for the advise but unfortunately.........

Having assumed the USB socket is the port you refer to I have just tried the switching on and off routine but it has made no difference I still get the device not connected message.

Perhaps make sure that the unit is properly connected to the RDC unit. And please confirm your bike is a Bmw R1200 GS/GSA LC?

I don't know if this has been asked yet but is there away to connect the existing OEM BMW auxiliary lights to do the same functions instead of buying additional auxiliary lights?.

Yes that is possible, so you will then unplug your existing oem lights from the auxiliary plug and replace it with the stub connectors supplied with the EZCAN. So now the lights will only respond to the EZCAN functions and will no longer form part of the bike controls. Personally I would rather add lights.

Will Probably still get addition lights just curious if it would work. I should have added about the brake light I assume that would be the same to gain the flashing function?
