Hexhead or WC ??

My standard gs is 30 months and 13000 miles old and I usually replace at 3 years, not sure why as it is only just run in. I am now in a quandry as I dont really want an adventure (extra height and weight ) nor do I want the extra performance that all the journos that have been on a freebie this week will be telling us the WC offers. Wouldnt you if you had just enjoyed a weeks freebie in SA.
I dont want the fancy suspension and wanted a standard GS with ABS and grips but too late none available now.
Should I bite the bullet and help develop the new wc or wait until others do that and try to get a very low mileage 2012 bike when they start to be traded in over the next few months ?
Somehow I think that the last of the proper aircooled bikes will become popular just as some like their 1100 or 1150 models best . How many others in the same predicament as me ?
 
I think you'll find in March there will be some great deals to be done with the "must haves" trading in or selling privately on very low mileage pampered bikes with all the extras, more than likely a fair few TB's as they where the last must have. Or even the Rallye anniversary model.
 
I can't believe that there aren't a few standard Oil Cooled GS's left... though over here (in NL) the dealer bought ones had lots of options..(active suspension, etc)..

I went for the GSA (ordered last week) 90th Anniversary edition. My buddy at work went for the WC GS with all options... we'll both get them in a month or so...

My decision was based on a personal rule.. never buy a bike without riding it first.. and I don't want to take the chance of having to wait till autumn to get it.

I test rode a 2012 GSA with standard GS seat on low setting... it felt exactly like the ride I took late last year on a 2011 GS demo.

The extra tank doesn't really feel like much when riding.. and I pushed it backwards up my driveway, as I'd done often with my 2005 GS in the past. It's all much of a muchness...

Bike change

If money's not a problem get your order in for late delivery 2013 when you may not use it so won't have a true opinion of a WC or get yourself a new hex head that dealers still have new and your sorted for the next 3yrs whilst the new WC gets tested and sorted by the inpatient and bnw,then trade your 3yr hex head in .My TBTC will keep me enjoying riding for many miles without worrying of a new WC farkle :blast :thumb2
 
I have a GSA its easy enough to push about on a flat surface - side stand down, one hand on LH handlebar, the other on pillion grab rail and avoid pushing it forwards.. Like any other (large) bike its too heavy to push up any sort of slope.

I find the handling is great with a full or empty petrol tank and its nice to have 300+ miles between fuels tops. the tank is also gives great weather protection. 120 mile sin sub zero temperatures is ok with decent winter gear. Heated jacket would be nice but not indespensible.

sounds like you want a hexhead, personally I think the WC looks fantastic and am very tempted but patience is a virtue as they say. I will wait until the reports come out:

1. if they say its the best thing ever then I will order one however so will everyone else and so I'll probably have to wait until next year

2. if they say its ok, I'll hold back and wait for the owners to report back on reliability and how they rate it.

With a habit like that, you are not appreciating the bikes as they should/can be once they've run in and loosened up a bit.

I don't know if the newer GSs have the same time as the older ones, but there was a BIG difference between a brand new 11xx and a 16+K miler 11xx.....

What is it that makes you feel the need to swap?
Insecurity over warranty?.....get an extended warranty :thumb2
'Must have the latest thing'?......fair enough, if that's what rings your bell, it's your money :nenau

Don't do it for the sake of it though- you're lucky enough to have options, so why not try something different this time around?

It all depends on what makes YOU tick....and frankly, nobody else here will be able to make that decision for you:thumb2
 
If you decide to keep the Hexhead it should be in its prime. Most German engines are not properly loosened up until they have 10,000 miles under the wheels.

If you want a WC, get one but put some miles on it so you can enjoy it as the design engineers intended.
 
well you must have mentioned it in at least 8 threads so far,so vines didnt give you what you wanted for it so you want to sell privately fair enough,so when the time comes do an add in the for sale section :beerjug:

I'm sorry, justify the part in bold. Why would a modern well engineered motor take that long to be running at its best? Its in the mind but you keep on believing, it only take one or two people to spout that rot and it becomes fact.
