Alright I'll reword it

Lots of people over the years have removed the breather pipe connection to the white plastic tubes that breath into the carburettors. Solo Lobo posted his own version some time ago on Advrider http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9063262&postcount=5

Proff goes down another route, or at least he had on the bike I bought from him, and fits a Harley style breather into the pipe where it enters the airbox. Other ways of acheiving the same end result exist. Apart from venting to atmosphere they all produca a goo into the bottom of the airbox that will eventually find it's way down the back of your gearbox.

I personally have only experienced oil mist clogging my carbs when I used Duckhams oil. I stopped using Duckhams and the problem went away until I used Duckhams again.

After talking this mod over with Lurcher I removed all the pipe work leaving just the T piece breathing straight into the airbox.

The tiny amount of oil that comes out of it will sit at the bottom of the airbox, the little breather valve at the rear is a few mm high of the bottom so it won't come out of there, it can be wiped out with a cloth each service and whilst there will trap any dust or grit that somehow makes it to that side of the filter element.

I'm thinking of using the same oil I put in my 1200 'Castrol Act>evo GP 4T 20-50' So I'm guessing I'll porbably not be having this problem.

I'm gonna vent mine to atmosphere, via the l/h hole in the airbox that used to connect to the PAIR valve... also gone, along with all that gubbins in the airbox and the cyld head side is plugged with a ball bearing.

So this filter thingy. I guess this just plugs into the end of the breather pipe. but what does it then do. What if you just run without the pipes?

I'm very interested in these mods as I've just noticed oily goo dripping from the left side carb air intake pipe, I wondered where the oil on my boot and gear lever was coming from. What causes this to happen?
I think I may well fit the harley type breather and remove the white(ish) plastic pipes.

The filter does eventually become saturated and restricts the engine breathing. It just delays the inevitable dribble through the airbox breather and down the back of the gearbox that you get if you just leave the pipe open.

yes, and also dribbling oil on your path from another oil leak

however I've not run the bike since I err (cough) fell off, but have noticed oil still leaking. I suppose I could put it down to character like i did with my norton.
