Anyway back to the rest of you.. looks like this rear wheel lock has been a problem in the past. A mate of a mate used to run a forum and remembers similar stories on the same matter.

Prob go straight to BMW and confront them with the issue! Really concerned and unsure if I wanna stick to the GS if this is a potential problem again. Once bitten and all that!

Sorry Dave, you seem to have been lost in all the talk about counter steering. I have 2 points on your original questions. Firstly I wouldn't trust a "mate of a mate" and I'd take anything I read on the internet with a pinch of salt (yes I can see the irony in that statement). The problem with the internet, and any discussion groups for that matter is that juicy "damning" information and half truths tend to get repeated. This happens so much that people forget where they first heard it and before you know it every BMW is a death-trap and we all wish we were riding jap bikes, because "they're all safe"

The other point about about not trusting the bike... I understand this one. I used to lock the rear up all the time on my first bike. I almost ended up fishtailing into a car once, while panic braking. The bike wasn't particularly good, but the biggest problem was the rider. It wasn't till I started doing the same on the next bike that I realised it was me that was the problem. I'm not saying your problem is with you rather than the bike (you don't say how experienced you are), but I do know the once bitten thing. The only thing I can say is that as soon as the bike is repaired, and the wrist is OK get back on the bike. Otherwise it'll become a phobia. It gets harder the longer you leave it.

Otherwise good luck and take everything on here with a pinch of salt. Much of it is good opinion, but there will always be the odd comment with no justification, and its hard to spot these, especially if they agree with how you're feeling.

Enjoy the riding. Sorry about the wrist.

Thanks Toby. :thumb

Good to see we got back to earth as seemed to loose the plot there big style. :topic

Yeah pinch of salt sonsidered I intend to get back on teh road as soon as poss. I have been riding now for 9 years and have had a range of bikes in that time. All comments considered, I intend to pursue the issue as it def shouldnt have happened. Everyone is entitled to their views on what they think happended (thats the joy with our beutuful part of the world), but I was on teh thing when it happened.

Anyway see what happens, but the important thing for me is to get out of this damn plaster, get the bike sorted and get ready for my holiday with the missus to france and spain (on the bike):clap

Cheers again

Dave
