Bought my 1250RS 2 weeks ago from a Honda dealer all good no problems, today the service message come up on the TFT saying it is due in around 3 weeks, turns out that the first annual service was done at a VAT Registered dealers using BMW parts so all ok there, however BMW will not turn the message off unless I have the bike re serviced with them, the bike has only done 1500 miles from new and it seems a bit overkill to have it serviced again just to get the service message turned off, not to mention the £230 it will cost

Anyone got any idea how to do this or know anyone who can and ill pay them

Thanks
Rob

I believe it can be turned off using a hexcode gs 911 thing.

....Or just ignore the service light until your next service is due?

I dont really want it on there for another 6 months Morety to be honest, if anyone is within a decent ride of Romford Essex who has a GS911 and can turn it off I dont mind paying to do it

Can the servicing dealer not re-set it?

My Mercedes van at work went into a local workshop to be serviced, and part of the service was to electronically enter the service onto Mercedes records so as to keep the manufacturers warranty. Do BMW have a similar system, and if so do you know if the previous service was registered? If not, you may, potentially face a warranty issue down the line. BMW not switching the service indicator off because BMW haven’t serviced the bike may be an indication that it wasn’t registered.

Spoke to BMW as long as I have a receipt from a VAT registered garage and they have used Genuine BMW parts its not a problem with the warranty !!

I do have a the dongle and the (full) Motoscan app.
Not sure if it can remove the service indicator (my bikes don't have it, so I never looked into it). Will check later today.

I'm fairly central (NW3) but don't mind resetting it for you if the app can.

Perfect thanks, if you let me know it can that would be great

Thanks

From a cursory Google search it seems it is possible.

I only have 1200 bikes, not 1250, but I'll verify after work this eve.

If you go to the TFT settings and alter the date to 2022, then officially it won’t have been a full year from the first service and it won’t show the service message. You will also have to make sure the time update from the sat nav, if you have one isn’t linked and that is in the settings also. It’s a workaround until the next service, if you can’t get anything else done.

Off at a slight tangent and maybe more grief than you can be bothered with, but is it worth a fair but firm complaint to the dealer which said this and failing that BMW HQ?

You aren't asking them to confirm they serviced the bike, only to turn off the warning message thingy. It sounds as though you were content to pay a (modest you would hope) fee for them doing so. As you have said, it seems like overkill having the service done which has already been done just to get the warning turned off.

It's also environmentally unnecessary to waste more oil and consumables which are unnecessary.

If they had said they just didn't want to do it (they aren't obliged to do work they don't want to, like anyone else) but it sounds as though they dressed it up as something else. Whatever their stance, it isn't good customer care and should be bad PR for the dealer if you were minded to go that way.

Also, don't you change your bikes every 3 months (I might be mixing you up with someone else) - don't they want you to come back for future service work? They are hardly encouraging you to go running back by their less than helpful attitude so far. Maybe you change bikes so often they never need serviced? :D

I had this same conversation with Williams motorrad I booked my bike in with them for an annual service and they checked it all over and stamped my booklet but because I had done the FD,Gearbox and engine oil myself they would not reset the service reminder .

I did something similar at the old Chester-motorrad, but they reset the system and just indicated in the service book that I had in fact done the oil changes

Cheers guys
changing the date is not a bad call, and you are all correct if they had said it will be £40 or so to turn it off id be there now !! yes I do change bikes quite a lot and do tend to use the local dealers for all work and parts, this has left a bit of a shitty taste in my mouth, maybe ill find another BMW dealer, these did seem to be a bit more accommodating when they were Cannon !!

I’m based in Fareham, Hampshire and have a GS911 WiFi with the OBD connector, happy to reset your service indicator if you are ever in the area as I have the professional version with no limit to VIN numbers although I don’t have the older round data plug adapter needed for earlier bikes.

Never tried anal clocks, not my kink. :D

But, thanks for confirming. I also searched online and it is doable.
Adventure boy, if you need, drop me a line (I also might be around on the GS this weekend). I'm around till next week. ;)

Bit different on the TFT its not a little spanner the message takes over the complete screen, if you clear it it comes back on !! pain in the arse !!
