Hi everyone, just part exchanged my trusty (but un-reliable) Tiger for a 1998 1100GS in black.
I'm slowly getting used to the change (ie not opening the throttle when I look for the right indicator) and so far impressed.
Decided that it needs two modifications though.

1) crash bars ( from experience, I know i will need these for WHEN I drop it.) so going for H&B

2) A Remus Reveloution exhaust.. "E" marked race can, sounds good to me... actually thats why, so i can here something.

reading this site i realise that fitting the Bars will be a pain, but i put similar ones on the Tiger and remember about one bolt at a time.
I see that Motorworks do both, and it says the exhaust comes with pipe to get rid of the CAT
But the exhaust, haven't looked to closely, but how easy is this going to be to fit. There was mention of sensors, what do I do with these if i find any?

Fitting H&B bars is not a problem - the problem is a myth. Just be methodical and do one side at a time so DO NOT remove both the rear gearbox bolts at the same time . I did mine alone in about 45 minutes. They just bolt on - it can't be easier.

The exhaust you want for the 1100GS is the Remus Grand Prix. It is a lovely deep rumbling sound but not the kind that makes your ears bleed or that shakes fillings loose. I have the front silencer and Grand prix end can fitted and it makes a real lovely sound without being offensive and it has full 'E' type approval.

GRAND Prix?
Is that a road can? do you think this is better than the Revelution.
I'm basically after an exhaust that gives more grumble, and de-restricts the exhaust, but is road legal, and I forgot to mention, doesn't interfere with the hard luggage.

Forgot to ask...

I have read about indicator melting, is this with the Remus revolution only.. and only with side boxes? is there a way round it?
Plus, fitting these cans( and connector pipe), does it need re-mapping or re-tuning?
Sorry for the dumb questions this first time i have had a bike that didn't have carbs, or had a CAT.

Grand Prix is fully road legal EC type approved and as far as I recall is the one recommended for the 1100 by Remus. The revolution is a popular 1150 one but most fit a Grand Prix or a Laser Deeptone to the 1100. The Laser runs very very hot without the chip being fitted and could melt things. The Remus doesn't need a chip.
It does run hotter than the OEM system but I have standard B#W plastic panniers and although I was a bit worried at first - it has been fine and no signs of anything melting - certainly not the indicators and that's after many many miles of happy rumbling :D

If you are in the vicinity of Land Ends at the end of April come down and see and hear all the variants for yourself - I reckon you will be hard pushed to choose any other road legal system above the Grand Prix.

No mapping or resetting anything needed with the Grand Prix - it is a straight swap for the OEM system - only it's in 2 pieces instead of one. Your questions aren't stupid - I asked all the same things when I was shopping around. I'll try and post some pictures later but I haven't got access to them on this computer.

Welcome to the GS madhouse by the way - good choice, the 1100 is the superior bike. :P

Just to be sure - you do or do not have a CAT on yours ? Mine is without .

I got my Remus revolution from motorworks, it sounds 'kin superb and was a doddle to fit. The 1100 does not have a lambda sensor so no worries there, at least mine did not have one!!

Good luck

Mark

I'm not sure whether I have a CAT or a very large collector box, not had chance to have a close look... saying that how would I know, don't have hand book at the moment.

So apart from the Sound and weight.. what are the pro's and con's for replacing the exhaust

The cat plug is normally situated in the exhaust under the right footpeg somewhere. It looks a bit like a spark plug stuck into the exhaust with a wire coming off it . If you see a bolt in the exhaust in the same place that is the blanking plug so you have no cat.

The advantage aside from sound and weight is looks, :D :D :D grin factor and the bike 'breathes' better. I was surprised how much more freely the bike seemed to rev and pull. I have no idea if it has freed up some BHP - I don't really care but it feels smoother and runs sweeter without being stifled by the B#W oem system.

Now shut up and go and buy one ....:D you know you want to !!

mmmm OK, better start saving the pennies. ordered the bars though, they are first priority. thanks for all the responces

....so are you coming to Lands End 23rd to 25th April to have a look at all the options ?

I would love to come down, But our Bike Club is holding it's Bike Rally that weekend in Oxford which i help organise, so wont get a chance.
But it would be great to meet up with you guys sometime, and see what everyone does with their bikes, and Ride out's if you do them.

Is your event open on Thursday ? We are looking for somewhere to stop on the way down to Landsend - maybe we'll drop by for a beer

Shame, but yes there no doubt will be a next time, be nice to see you guys and see what you have done to your bikes.
