Hi Just joined and thought I would say hello:flag
I have just bought myself a really nice French registered 2005 1200GS yellow with 27km on her. I have been going though all the GS sites and came across this excellent site. I am totally new to boxers and big trailies for that matter, had a Yamaha XT550 way back in 1985 but all my previous bikes have been big sports bikes and I still have a blade. I am having to wear my Alpinestars one piece leathers and Arai helmet just now, any body else wear leathers?? I am wondering what is the best option for riding gear for a GS ? I had thought of getting some Hein Gericke stuff sent from Germany or is there another sugestion. I am sticking with the Arai ...not shelling out another 300 - 400 Euro on a off roady type. Looking forward to some nice days out on her.... Pyrenean mountain tops here I come!!

Welcome :thumb

Textiles are more versatile than leather and HG seem like good value for money. I still use a Arai RX7 don't see much point in a TourX type lid unless you are a poseur :D

I have just ordered a load of gear from Hein Gericke for me and the mrs, it is good gear at a reasonable price.

Ah, bonjour....:D

Gave up my leathers when I sold my Mille R and took up the textile clothing (Revit & Rukka) for the GS; as for helmets, I still have my Arai Corsair (which I love), but bought a 2nd hand Arai Tour X for £100. Am not in the habit of buying 2nd hand lids, but this one has been superb.

Check out Revit too - good gear & reasonably priced.

Yes HG seems to be value for money. I like the textile thing but you can't beat the safety factor of leathers if mine were two piece I'd probabley just stick with them. I will do very little off road work mostly mountail passes so I will use them from time to time. On another completely different subject, I hate reading about these FD failures gives me the creeps :eek! I take it they are rare occurences? Never had a shaft drive before I thought they were bomb proof! They bikes a peach though wish I knew how to post a pic anybody help there?

Does Sarkozy have any chance of winning? He is such a little Twat. Welcome!

I went cheap for my first set of textiles that lasted a year and ended up going Rukka in the end. It will hurt when you pay the bill but you won't regret it down the road. I looked at the HG Master V suit which looks good but didn't fit me short legs. Would recommend anything that you do buy has a Gore-tex Pro Shell in which the water will run off rather than wick.

Klin makes some very nice clothing.

Not if I am to believe the views of my neighbours !!:D

Halvarssons (swedish) do good reasonably priced stuff, they and some other makers are now doing the higher level safety approved kit too, if you check grandprixlegends.com and look for their inner jackets which combined with an outer have a CE1 rating,

I have their Optimal jacket which has served me fine, not as waterproof as goretex or rukka but half the price

Agreed - Lindstrands is another one of their brands, slightly cheaper but great quality. I have a Grafitti jacket and matching trousers and have been completely dry in them in some of the heaviest rain I ever rode in. What part of France does the flag in your first post come from?? :thumb

Simple - take it easy and don't fall off :D

I believe the GS is the perfect mountain pass bike - its what they do best IMO - you won't regret it :beerjug:

Some bods report that it's not..... unless it has the shorter first gear option..... Too much clutch slipping, apparently....

Funny I quite often pull out of hairpins in 2nd or 3rd - what am I doing wrong :nenau Perhaps not being tosser shapped and riding a vanilla GS helps :D

I wear 2 piece leather bike kit (made to measure from SCOTT leathers) and a "road" crash helmet (Arai Acxes (sp)) in the summer months.

When it's cold I do wear textile stuff, but it's stuff that I've bought over the years. Mostly cheap stuff (Akito, Frank Thomas).

You don't have to wear "off road" style kit on a 1200GS. Wear what's comfy.

For hot weather, short trips, it's jacket and jeans (normal jeans, not bike specific ones).
