hi guys, would like to firstly say hello, just got my self a 2003 f650gs and was wondering what the tank range is , how much fuel is left when when fuel light comes on and what others are getting mpg, i am sure i will have lots of other question lol just about to set off across europe to travel around bulgaria :-)

Hi, and welcome Hank :thumb2

With my '02 F650GS I get approx 200 miles before the light comes on; I've not taken the bike any further than 30 miles on reserve. Typically this is on a commute which is A-road and 1-2-3 gear town/ city stuff. A-road riding is usually quite spirited' :)

The last fill up (last Sunday) was at 140 miles doing THIS; it took 8 litres (< 2 imperial gallons) :beerjug:

well based on my first proper fill up...

Welcome to the site and the bike....

.....I got 182 miles before the 'warning light' came on and when i filled it up (on the side stand) squeezed in 12.08 litres.....

and I make that...... 68mpg:D:D:D

absolutely incredible, as the typical mpg of most of the 25+ bikes I've owned over the years has been between 35-50mpg....

in fact I can't even remember the last time I owned a bike returning this kind of thimble sipping characteristics, especially after what I would call spirited riding with lots of short shifting and taking the revs up to the upper range. open roads, mixed rural lanes and a wee bit of byway

so I've had to put this first fill up down as being a fluke.... I just really couldn't believe it. Even my honda tranny only managed about 55 at best!

Routine maintenance tasks seem to be a bit of a faff in some cases e.g oil, air filters, coolant change etc. And the fuel filter (although I think being on 24k intervals) is weight for weight as pricey as gold!!:eek

Last time I toured on my Dak two up with panniers to France, we were averaging 70+mpg bimbling along the N's and D's. Even now with a 15T front sprocket and green laning, it still returns nearly 45-50mpg.
