Hi Guys and Gals,
I am the new proud owners from today of a low mileages 57 reg 08 model r1200gs, it is in great shapes and i will be looking to put a few choice upgrade on there asap, however the front cover has a bit of bubling paint syndrome developing, can you tell me what is the best way to get rid of this, i will fit a fender extender and also a ally guard to stop it again in the future.

This is fairly common, wait till every bolt on the bike turns to rust and looks like an old tin can, other than that you got a good bike, :P

Ok guys, thanks for the welcome,
From what you are saying there is no fix for this? Can it not be sanded down to the metal and repainted?
Also do you know where the next meet around yorkshire is?

Maybe but probably easier to replace it if you can't live with the corrosion - also check that the sponge has been removed when you take the cover off

Yes you can sand it down and respray it as other have done. You can prevent further corrosion with a coating of ACF50 and the occasional rinse with cold water after salt runs. I'm no expert but know it's possible. The right people who have gone through that process will hopefully reply soon. It's a great bike. :thumb2

Welcome DAFT

welcome to the site.

Rule 1 - do not let the horror stories on this site detract the enjoyment you are certain to get with your recently acquired GS.

Rule 2 - errr always say thank you if someone holds a door open for you.

All the best

Again thank you everyone, for your help.
I am glad to see that you guys all know about the amazing product that is ACF50, i have been using it for about 8 years now and its even managed to keep a GSXR1000 rust free through 3 winter....
Glad to be part of this mad house
