Hi, new to the forum and have just bought an Adventure plus alu panniers to be used for touring. I am thinking of hi viz decals on the side panniers - Humvee-Graphics, but am uncertain as to go with the understated black vinyl or the red/white/yellow chevrons.

Can anyone comment on how bright the black design is compared to the red/white/yellow option?

Thanks for any advice

Hi, I have the BLACK and YELLOW chevrons on the corners of all by alloy boxes, and I am told that from the rear at night it looks like a BIG fOOking TRUCK. (i think they mean my bike and NOT me)

Hi Grey Beard,
Both types of chevrons are made from the same reflective vinyl and are equally visible at night when subjected to light from other vehicles and street lamps etc.
The Red/White/Yellow versions are more conspicuous and visible by day compared to the more stealthy Black version, in terms of sales I would say it's a 50/50 split, obviously I have used both types and prefer the all black versions but it's your choice.

Hope that helps.

Hi

Thanks Haboo & 2 wheel humvee for your replies.

Is there any legal problem with black (when rear facing) as it will show up white? In UK colour should be red and I guess this is same in rest of EU?

But from your responses, the red/yellow/white sounds better in daytime. The Adventure looks enormous from behind with the side panniers, so I want to try and make sure other road users notice that !!

The last image is a side on view of a 1200GSA topcase, the chevrons were designed to fit Red to the rear facing edge White to the front and yellow to the side facing edges on the lid, you could argue that any colour reflective surface the helps to get you noticed is doing the job.

Yes, anything which helps visibility and reduces accidents is doing it's job. I realised the red/yellow/white option was for rear/side & front.

I guess any reasonable policemen would only have a quiet word, if the wrong colours were presented, though I've heard that the German police are a little less friendly than those in the UK.

I suppose if there was a big problem with the reflective black, I would have read about it on this forum :).

Also very useful for locating your bike on campsites, if wearing a head-torch...
