I may have been living in a cave but can anyone tell me if Hi Viz jackets or Sam Browne belts are now a legal requirement in France? I saw somewhere that the new regs "should come into effect" in September 2011 but I can't find a date or if it actually IS now law. I'm leaving shortly, any info much appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks.

We were over there last w/e - went through 2 check points without question.

If the "law" has been passed its not been enforced - as the requirement for larger plates for the french.

Only hi viz seen were donned by brits!

There is no legal requirement in France to wear hi-viz on bikes. However, if you are using the autoroute in a car, you are required to carry hi-viz vests for each occupant in case of a breakdown.

They're not compulsory yet, demonstrations are still going on against it. I was passed by two motorcycle gendarmes today at a highly illegal speed, both were looking really cool in their immaculately pressed short sleeved blue shirts. Somehow I don't think they'd have the same image with a hi-viz jacket flapping around.

Well that's me sorted then! Thanks everyone.

And I've got a short sleeved blue (ex navy) shirt somewhere, maybe I'll dig that out tomorrow before I go so I can fit in.

May the Indian Summer last forever.
