Wearing Police Hi-Viz jacket?

"I have a white bike, I've bought a white helmet, I've bought a police high viz jacket, people slow down when they see me in their mirrors" :blagblah :blagblah :blagblah :blagblah !!!!! Twats!! get a life

Ugghh, jealousy's an ugly thing, isn't it! :D

In a recent study of crashes ... :blagblah

White motorcycle are over represented.
Which in English means that more white Bikes have crashes than other colours. :blast

In other news,
1./ According to the EU Commission 8% of crashes are due to 'technical failure' of the machine.
2./ According to the N.I. Dept of Environment over 95% of crashes are due to human error.

Just had to reply to this, I have not read or for that mater intend to read all post on the original subject, but I am p---ed off listening to people telling me what I should or should not wear when I am on a bike!

As for high vis! wear if you must but do not preach how much better/safer you feel, if people don't see me coming with my lights on then they it aint going to make any difference other than make me look like I have just walked of a building site, indecently I wear high vis on certain factories I may visit during working hours.

I ride a multitude of different bikes during the year, all bar 2 have lights on daytime mode so what is the problem, if people keep going on about such subject it just fuels the ignorant politicians to legislate.

Also while I am on does any one else think MCN has turned in to agony ant with your say columns, I mean who the f--- sits down and rights should they make passenger wear this that or the other, should they try and follow faster riders, should they ride with friends with faster bikes, what is it all coming to, my main concern for motorcycle industry is to get younger people on bikes, my racing days are gone but I still hit the road as keen as ever within my or my bikes limits, if I come home and find I have scrubbed my tyre then that is because I & bike can, not because am mad!!

This comes after having to tell a bmw rider to shut the f-- up after I over heard his explanation to his female passenger outside a cafe this morning, he said to have done that means he was dangerous, well I could have chocked on my capacino only that I had allready swallowed it, but I could not swallow that s--t.

Sorry for rant

Im sure in your head - that makes sense.........................

I see what you mean! my tyres on the 851 I was riding at the time have chewed up the tyre rims, and I beleave he was re faring to having to lean the bike over to do this would instigate that I was mad!!!

What he did not considder that I may have been using up the last of my tyre's life after a track day, as it happens I was'nt. Anyhow I feel much better today, will check out some racing on the box.

I ride a Diversion 900 - hardly the fastest or best handling thing on the road, but the chicken strips on the rear tyre are around 5mm and the front tyre is always worn on the shoulders before the midline. Does this mean I ride like an idiot and never use the brakes or can I just make proper progress on a road bike. I dont use Hi-viz either. As @RWG said with LED day lights and dip beam why would a hi-viz vest make any difference.

This picture really makes me wonder about my usual bike clothing -

BUT, when I look at this picture, it is the bike that I see, not the rider. For me, the rider in his hi-viz and white helmet seems to blend a little with the background ...

It depends which photo you use to further your argument:thumb

So, run that one past me again...

... the panel thinks its good to wear HiViz in circumstances when:

1) You want to impersonate a twat
2) You don't want to be run over
3) Your best underpants are stuck to the floor
4) There's a chance of it being Tuesday
5) You were a Police employee in another life
6) You own a quadruple matt black GSA with a small water cooled reactor (needed to power an incredibly bright ex-stadium flood light tower gaffer-taped to the OSF fork)
7) You don't give a toss what anyone else thinks

Please tick all that apply. Then fold your paper in half and put it in the sealed box. Write your name in indelible ink on the outside in a font that is precisely your shoe size in Mondo Point divided by your age expressed as a fraction of your dislike of badgers. The result of the poll will be announced later in the year.

+1:thumb No harm in asking:nenau

I always wear hi viz when i'm operating my JCB Telehandler

I mostly wear hi viz when i'm cycling on the road

I don't wear hi viz when i'm on my great big white GSA with a headlight that's always on and spotlights that are sometimes on......I also have a white Schuberth C3 helmet and my riding gear all has reflective material on it from my boots, trousers and jacket to my gloves.

If someone can't see a bike that's nearly as big as a car with all those lights and reflective gear then will they see my high viz jacket especially if i'm coming towards them and mostly 'hidden' behind the screen and fuel tank as well as the 'headlight dazzle'.

I've no problem with wearing hi viz but if some other road users have 'no viz' then maybe it's not going to make a great deal of difference when it should!

Ok so I've been wearing a Hi Viz vest for the last couple of months when i've been out on the bike.

It's the same one i've got in my JCB..........What harm can it do?:nenau

Basically i guess i'm feeling a bit mortal after coming across a couple of bad accidents on these dark winter nights!

FP.

Those JCB cabs can be dangerous places right?

We have to wear them in the factory, and its nice and light in there and the fork trucks don,t drive around with lights on. Surely reflectives can only reflect the light that hits (no pun intended!) them??

Why do the hoarders of school kids wear them on pavements?

Wear it if you fact it, if not don't bother

Good point with the light thing!:thumb

Most of my riding is at night at the moment on the ASDA or IKEA circuit!

Lots of farmers/tractormen/Ag contactors are wearing Hi viz up here aswell.

My JCB Loadall is putting up Christmas lights in the local town on Sunday and we have to work with the same health and safety rules as everyone else...............I work with the council and foresty guys aswell so everythings got to be right for the job these days.

Seems like everyone's wearing hi Viz these days from trolley shepherds to shepherds:blast

I'd just like to thank all the contributors to this thread and say a special thanks to those who have bumped it out of obscurity several times in the past 9 months or so.
