I'm looking for a HID kit, I would like to know the best bulb colour to get I have a choice of 4700k, 6000k, 8000k, 10000k or 12000k?
thanks

Noel, don't go any further than 4700k if you want the best light output. Higher gives you more blue colour but less natural looking light and less penetration. Have them fitted now and have to say.....top mod and well worth it.

At 6000k there may be fewer lumens but the light is bluer and far more akin to natural daylight (5500K).

They do an excellent job of showing up roadsigns and considerable distance.

8000K are far too violet - indeed it's harder for the human eye to work at that end of the spectrum.

Normal tungsten lamps are at about 3400K.

Oh, and I was always told than bulbs grow in gardens.

And lamps (bulbs to you) fit in lampholders ...

I've opted for 4700k bulbs. Just out of interest do you modify the lo beam only or both or should I modify the auxillary lights the kit I've found has H1 bulbs so it will fit both.

I changed both low beam and high beam headlights.

Stunning amount of light.

But that damned dip beam lens/reflector still isn't a decent shape ... still the added light output does help.

I've only done the low beam and with MicroDE's (with standard bulbs) the light output and beam pattern is fine. The fogs are a bit yellow and I am looking for some whiter bulbs but this is nit picking. On full beam I use FF50's and they utterly rock so didn't bother with HID on full.
No matter what you do with the full beam, it's shocking so Aux lights are the best way to improve. I wouldn't go to HID aux lights simply because to find space for three ballast boxes would be a pain in the arse. You are limited by the length of the cable that comes with the kit.
