My HID bulb went Pop! last night, luckily I could get home on the high beam.
Does anyone know how easy it is to change the bulb and how it is done?
Also can you get the bulb in Halfords?
Do they go often?

Easy like changing the std bulb. Just take the old bulb + wires out disconnect from Ballast and put in new bulb.

You won't find the new bulbs in Halfords, best bet is to ask Les Wassel on this site (do a search). Depends on your kit type though.

No, then again it depends on the kit. The most wear and tear occurs at startup. So its really how often you turn them on and off rather than length of use. A good 5 years seems to be the average.

Thanks for the reply.
I have the bulb out now, so just have to track down a new one.
Are they expencive?

James,

Les Wassal of this forum runs a web site HID50. As non-subscriber you can't PM him here, but you can drop him an email at his web site...

It could be either the burner or the ballast that has gone. If it is not obvious that the burner has gone and you have HID on the main, try swapping the ballasts over to see if the problem moves to the main ( indicates the ballast has gone), or stays with the dip (indicates burner has gone). They are both usually long life items, but not infinite.

Burners seem to cost somewhere between £34 and £40, and you will need to know if your ballast is 35W or 50W. IIRC the burners have absolutely no markings on them to identify type, power or temperature ...

Unfortunately no HID on main but the little globe inside the burner looks smoky so I reckon it is that. I will get in touch with Les Wassal.
Thanks a million for the info.

For what it's worth I live near Les and will in all likelihood be heading to Dublin on Monday so if you need a delivery just let me know. :aidan

That would be absolutely excellent! I emailed Les but no reply yet but if he has the bulb in stock that could defiantly work.
Thanks!

I changed the Burner and it worked when I first fitted it but, when I went for a the first ride I noticed it was no longed lighting.

I'm guessing it is the Ballast is at fault. When you unplug the connector from the side of the plastic headlight cover and connect it again the light starts up for a split second and the Ballast makes its little buzzing noise. It sounds like a bad connection, I know, but I'm pretty sure it is not. In relation to a standard electrical system the HID setup is quite difficult to check, particularly when there is, obviously, no continuity from the Burner.
