Since my last trip to France and Spain, I've fitted 50w HID bulbs to my high and dip headlights as supplied by hid50.com.
Great job and no probs at mot time but was wondering if anyone had been pulled for using them while abroad?
Can change them back for the trip, if necessary.

Just take your spare bulbs and your covered

Take normal bulbs. Takes ten minutes to swap them over.

Pack an ISIL flag in your luggage.
If you do get pulled over, the gendarmes won't look at your headlight...........:beerjug:

Just wheelie everywhere and they wont see your lights :)

I had similar worries acts having mine done a couple of years ago, but despite a few scare stories (mostly in Austria) I haven't had any issues at all, at least in France, Germany or The Netherlands

There (should be) no difference in dipped beam pattern if changing from H7 to HID in the standard headlamps, so reverting to standard bulbs won't make any difference as far as Les Flics are concerned - it will only reduce the brightness, not remove the "kick". TBH motorbike headlamps have relatively little "kick" in the dipped beams anyway (compared to ordinary car headlights). But if you wanted to be totally compliant you could simply stick an ordinary "beam convertor" mask on the dipped beam lamp, following the generic instructions in the pack. Or you could really pinch the pennies and DIY with a bit of masking tape.

That's what I thought after it passed the mot ok. BTW, mots in N Ireland are carried out by a government department rather than a dealer. So they tend to be a bit tighter on stuff. If they passed it should be ok. just wondered if anyone had been pulled.
I'll carry a spare H7 anyway.

I've I've just ridden 4.200 miles through 15 countries saw police people in many of them and didn't have a problem anywhere.
Don't worry about it.

I daresay the majority of those miles were done in daylight - Riding at night would be more likely to raise issues regarding non-compliant lighting.

Sent using smoke and mirrors

Driving on unlit roads with my OEM halogen bulbs was really not good. With the spots switched on I had too much foreground light with total blackness just beyond. Main beam is not shifted high enough above dip beam so almost useless. HID solved both issues.

So worry about it.
Who cares?
