Hi all,

I know that there have been other threads on this in the past but have done the Hid conversion to my 1150gsa along with a set of torbinators and a headlight protector.

Unsuprisingly i'm getting a lot of reflection on the inside of the screen especially with the main beam on. I've worked out this is mostly coming from the reflected light from the headlight protector, bouncing off of the silver instrument cover and illuminating the inside of the screen.

I appreciate there is a degree of self help in terms of changing the angle of the screen, painting the top of the headlight protector, putting up with it etc but as far as I can see, the way to solve the problem would be to fit some form of cover between the headlights and the protector. I've heard this refered to as an 'eyebrow'

I've seen one for the 1200 on a US website (I think) but haven't ever found one for the 1150.

Does anyone know if a company makes one or can recommend a good DIY fix? Any thoughts much appreciated.

I have the same kinda problem on my 1100 but it was present before the HID conversion aswell. Currently I shove something between the screen and instrument panel but am thinking of making some kinda eyebrow or more permanent fix.

Ill watch this thread incase you come up with a good idea I can steal :)

Chris.

Take one of those matt black plastic a4 paper folders, a sharp pair of scissors and make an eyebrow that traps under the cover that covers the instruments......you can duct tape it into place under there.

Make it stick out a good few inches at first, so it cuts out ALL of the reflected light, then trim it back and back until you start getting the light back again.

Use that limit as your template and now make a smarter one out of the same material...you will have enough for 3-4 attempts.

It's stiff enough so that the inch or so that you need to poke forwards won't flap (it will be rounded by the shape of the binnacle cover, which will give it strength) and it will last forever, as well as looking OK.

Would there be any harm in cutting the bolts and spacer a bit shorter so the dipped side sits under the silver cover looks like it would only need to be a cm or so?

i did that, and it worked fine.

I thought my picture showed that... :nenau

It anyone's interested I've found that a piece of damp proof course material and 3 cable ties are a near perfect for my set up. I've enclosed a photo which isn't brilliant as was taken in the dark on my phone but it gives the idea.

Quite pleased with myself :D

Ive made something with the plastic folder idea for my 1100 which fits between the top of the light and Touratech perspex protector but its still present. Ill have to have another go now ive got my lights back together.

Take the Headlamp Protector Off!!

What's the point of these headlamp protectors anyway - unless you follow others closely off road?

If you are really, really unlucky and you get a cracked headlamp you can probably pick one up s/hand for less than the price of this plastic bling!

It just makes things harder to wash and clean - plus the plastic usually gets "cloudy" due to wear and tear so your headlights are less effective?

I've now done 150K with the same headlights (also with HID nowadays) with no damage (:blast - shouldn't have said that!)

Many would probably disagree with the above - but although many mods and bling are helpful and useful, many would be better left in the Touratwat catalogue.

Cheers..........Grizzly:beerjug:

Quite ... mine came with one ready attached, think the main point is it's somewhere for Touratech logo to feature  anyway it will be removed fairly shortly when I get time...

Had same problem with HID on 1150GSA, found by playing with the tobinators and angle of screen, I've eliminated it! Just keep adjusting it will be ok!
