Hi All, I am a complete novice to HID (have a kit on order) and a question regarding spare bulbs. What is the lifetime like of an HID bulb? Do you need to carry a spare HID bulb while traveling abroad? And for long journeys where supplies are limited do people carry the old non HID as a replacement. Many thanks in advance (this is my first new thread post so go easy on me :) )

Cheers, Nick

old ones

just carry and old on as replacemend and if its you dipped that goes replace it with the main beam bulb and but the old one in the main beem

easy

and then replace the hid when you can rather than folking out the money in advance

Hi
Thanks for the reply, So in my case where the dipped is going to be the new HID, stick an old dipped beam bulb in the main beam and drive with that on as my dipped beam.

Looking at you profile, you own a 1200GS, so I'm not sure what bulbs each of the headlights uses but, fit your HID to the dipped beam as planned. When you travel, take a normal dipped beam, filament style bulb as a spare & swap it out if the HID bulb fails. There's no need to worry about swapping the main beam one across & there's no modification needed to the bulb holders so swapping back & forth between HID & normal is pretty straightforward.

HTH,
