I'm about to order some HID's for my 08 GSA from HID50. Going to go with 50 watts in both Main and Dip, and 35 watts in the 2 x OEM Aux lights. I can't decide on colour temperature to choose be it 5000K or 6000K. Has anyone got 6,000K HID's and ever had any legal issues with them or failures in an MOT? A friend is telling me the bluish ones get attention from the law, although I prefer the slightly blue tinge.

I could put 5K's on the main and dip with 6K's on the aux light and having a slight difference might make me more visible in daylight. Has anyone done this and have any views.

I will also have to move the crashbars on the GSA to fit the new bracket. I have had a quick look and I think there are two different sized torx bolts on the crashbars for which I will need extra long torx bits. Anyone know what size these are so I can order some off the net.

Thanks for input and opinions.

HID Upgrade

Beemerman59,
I got a set from HID50. 50W for both main & dipped & 35W for the 2 x OEM Aux lights. The main & dipped gives off a really bright white light. The 35 W on the Aux lights, give off a blueish light. I don't have a problem with either. The main & the dipped are different class over the OEM bulbs. Go for the 6000K's white light on the main & dipped. You will not be disapointed. I got the ballast mounting bracket with the lighting kit. This will save you a lot of hassle trying to find a suitable space for the ballasts. I managed to fit the igniters up around the fork area. I was fussy when I fitted them & took a lot more time to route the cabling/wiring so it was neat & tidy & free running with no sharp deviations. As to the Torx fixings. Buy yourself a set of T handle torx bits. Similar to this = http://toolbug.co.uk/t-bar-handle-torx-keys-set-p-71.html. If you want some pictures of the ballast mounting PM me & I'll send them.

Good luck.

Bulb colours 4300K are close to the normal Halogen colour but much brighter , 5K is white light and the 6K is white with the tint of blue, more up the spectrum you go the less light as it goes to purple, if you want light but not to be picked out of the crowd then 4300K, if you want affect and a little pose then the 6K :D

I have a set of Les's hid's and also bought the mounting bracket. I have an 08 GSA and their is no need to remove the cross bar to fit the bracket. If I remember rightly just undo the oil cooler mounting bolts and then angle the bracket from the front un and under and job's a mgood un:):)

I followed a few traffic cop cars over the last few days and none of them pulled me.

I've 6k HIDs. If I could choose again I'd get the lowest colour temperature I could, down to 4000. The lower the colour temperature the brighter they are.

6000k HID50

I've had my HID for 6 months and not a whiff out of the Police. I followed one for 10 miles a few months back on the motorway. Just make sure you adjust the dip correctly.

.

Yeah me; 6K in dipped and normal halogens in the DE fogs - the dramatic colour difference really makes the bike stand out in traffic (well I think it does) :thumb2

I've a set of Les's HIDs fitted and the bike will be due its MOT in June. Anyone have any problems or just change back to the ordinary bulbs to be on the safe side ?

Thanks guys, but I should have made it clear that it's for Norn Iron. We have goverment run MOT stations (we can't just take our cars/bikes to a garage) and they can be a bit awkward to say the least.

Then change the HID burner for a halogen bulb just before the MOT. Changed in 60 seconds......

I have a 50 kit from Les in a 4300 brightness

Even as this is the yellowish light he does its still blindingly bright and unsettles the odd cage driver

It does look the best if combined with the OEM foglights IMHO

I've got Les' 6k in my 12GS and Madame has 5k on her F800.

Slightly prefer the 5k on aesthetic grounds but both work wonderfully.
