HIDs Kit on eBay £60

Les Wassells same money perform great

Hi,
Not knocking the link to the ebay ones, but I'd check out Les Wassell's (of this parrish) Hard Core Lighting. Les sold me a 35w mini ballast and burner for that kind of money. I used it for 27,000 miles last year, including 3,000 off-road. It was 100% reliable and I didn't see any other set up that was any brighter. Gets my vote.

some of the ebay ones are very good,

i got a set 4 years ago, still goin strong, and a great beam,
avoid the big ballasts, they are old

I still worry about the legality of these lamps I spoke to my local MOT Guy & he says that he has never seen one with the correct light spread/shape so has been failing them ??

I worry about the legality of speeding. I spoke to my local plod, who has seen some bods speeding. He nicked them.

Worry less.... and besides, if you ain't got them fitted, you have least to worry about out of anyone :comfort

The MOT rules changed on 1st January. Any HID lights must be self levelling and have an automatic cleaning system.

In context.
Exhaust pipes must be below x db :blagblah
Number plates must be :blagblah
These rules are only gonna get worse thanks to the EU.

I have them, when the MOT comes I will change my can and plug in my halogen lights. It's no big deal is it?

When they scrape you up off the road after being taken out by a t*** who is on his phone, the coroner doesn't say; ah well, at least he had the correct headlamp beam pattern. I want to dazzle the s*** out of them so they see me coming. Past and bitter experience talking. I was reading in one of les's threads about a guy who says they think he he driving a lorry as he travels towards them and are surprised when it's a GS:friday

I think your're wrong on the MOT info. Might be wise not to deliberately dazzle oncoming traffic so they don't drive straight into you because you blinded them.

Here is the link to the VOSA directive. http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/technicalpenpicture3-lighting.pdf

This is an extract so might not be all bad news
"Headlamp washing and levelling systems are mandatory for all vehicles fitted with LED headlamp
systems, although these are not yet widely used and only tend to be optional fitment on some
executive marques. However, as LED systems improve and because they can be arranged in
almost any design configuration, they are sure to become more common.
Where headlamp levelling or cleaning devices are missing or defective, but there is doubt as to
whether they are required, the benefit of the doubt should be given and an advisory notice issued."

The more I read it the more ambiguous it becomes. Depends you your tester i guess. Mine is Tommy; deaf and blind so I might be ok :augie

this is not the same as HID??

If you read the whole document, it is clear that although the paragraph quoted states LED, they are actually talking about HID lamps. What they are saying is that new vehicles fitted as standard (or as an option) with HID lamps are required to have lamp washers and self-levelling suspension or lamps, and that older vehicles that have been retrofitted with HID kits will also have to have them for the MoT.

This is a new change (effective from January this year) so the fact that some MoT testers have passed vehicles without self-levelling etc in the past is no guarantee of future acceptance.
