Can anyone give me a reason why we don't hear much of fittin High Intensity discharge lamps
into Airheads especially RT and RS?

I have a friend who wants to pinch my kit for the GR and fit it to his airhead

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the HID inverters are susceptible to
the voltage changes of an airhead??

Any comments or thoughts?

Edit useful comments chaps and chapesses! Puh~Leeez?

i wonder who that could be :augie:augie:augie:augie:augie

could you not put in a smoothing capacitor on the input

I thought about it but the headlamp on mine is pretty good anyway so no urgency. I don't know if there's enough room to fit the longer bulb in the clamshell anyway. I think I've got some HID bits lying about somewhere so I might have a go sometime.

Airhead HID

I fitted a Hi Lo beam HID to my R100GSPD a couple of years ago. The spec says that the invertors work down to about 8V, draw less current that a conventional Halogen set up and are considerably brighter. The downside I have found is that the beam pattern is not well defined. ( due to the source of light being a 'blob' instead of a filament for which the lens was designed )

Put it this way, I have not changed back to the original.

So No one has any downside to fitting an HID and ballast kit into an airhead

I had worries about Voltage but they seem to work down to 8 volts

My only other thoughts are Vibration and the igniter and cooling the bugger inside an RT fairing???

Any further offerers of advice ???? BEFORE I go fit the fecker?
