Hi all...am new to this forum but have taken the recent step to purchasing a pretty well looked after 92 r80gs for £1800.00 with 90000 miles on the clock.
The mileage thing is what is a slight worry to me and would like to know if the price i paid was about right and what i should be looking for..ie potential problems with the bike and things that are going to need doing in the near future.
The bike done a trip to china and back last year but has since sat in a garage.Hopefully i havent made a mistake buying this bike.
Your views would be most welcome.

I've got one with over 200k on it that's a pleasure to ride (looking at it's another matter).

£1800 is ok. It's obviously about right if you bought it in the first place.

Pictures would help :thumb2

90'000 is not much for any bike really. so long as it's been reletively well looked after. Our's has 133'000 and is still very sweet.

£1800 is a good price. You won't find many decent ones this cheep. Well done, show us some pictures soon. :thumb2

Just about run in then. :thumb2

How does it ride? This is the most informative test. Get another airhead owner to ride it too. Other than that a compression test will give you an insight into engine condition. While the plugs are out use a flexible single LED torch to look at the bore, piston and valves.:thumb

I saw that one in MCN the other week
Been to Bejing & back hasn't it .
A very tidy looking red paralever isn't it ?

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys and yes its the one from the MCN mag.Looking forward to putting another 100k on the clock lol

It'll be fine.
I rescued mine last year from languishing in a garage for 10 years.
New battery, fluids etc. & a good engine & carb service by Steve Scriminger & she's like new :thumb2

Only got 18000 miles on the clock though (3000 in the last year :D )

Now got a K1200S languishing in my garage :augie

Had a r1150gs for 3 years then through some tempory fit of insanity i sold it and totally regretted it like an hour later lol.Had to content myself a few months later with a transalp 700 which is a cool bike but now i have an old airhead my life is complete again lol...ps if my wife reads this i am so dead lol

I paid £1800 for my 80G/S with only a few thousand miles on it............

........back in 1982 :D
