Hi all, hoping to get an opinion from the collective on this GS. Didn't meet reserve, minimum is £4,495. Good value or steer clear?

£4500 looks alright even when you factor in the 60k service :thumby:

If you had posted this yesterday I could have checked it out for you this afternoon on my way back from Castle Carey

I would do the 60k myself so shouldn't cost much I suspect. Only concern is the corrosion on the final drive and some engine joints but I know that's very common on these. Also recurring mention of issue on front wheel on MOT.
It does seem like a lot of bike for the money though. How are the gearboxes on these early bikes?

It's a14 plate, so it's most likely got the heavier flywheel than the 2013 bikes. I've still got my 2013. My son had a 2014 for a while and from memory the gear change on his was a bit less clunky than mine. Having said that, you can do a lot with the correct oil and adjustment of the clutch. Mine's actually very smooth and silent when the engine is cold but is clunkier when it's hot.

I agree with the 4.5k.
Discs look to be in good condition which suggests lots of longer runs, rather than commuting - discs can be worn below spec by 25k.
Wheel rims look good so not many tyre changes = longer runs.
Boot scuffing on swing arm is the only sign of carelessness.
Trying to sort the minor corrosion in my view is not worth it financially at this point.
I have the same model with 30k

Thanks for the replies fellas. I really rate the guy selling it, very honest and takes loads of photos. I would be buying it without seeing it in person. I was quite shocked to see the discs look like originals even at 60k. I wouldn't go too mad re the minor corrosion, just a touch up here and there. I usually buy stainless bolt kits which can really transform a bike.

I can’t find where you’ve seen this in the advert but in one of the photos the front wheel looks to have a slight flat spot on the rim as if it’s been curbed or something

Apart from that the corrosion looks to be purely cosmetic, can’t see any obvious signs of accident damage from the pics

looks like the fork recall has been done, it will be a Euro 3 the same as my 2016 bike so the fueling is good and the gearbox fine

Test ride it and listen for noisy cams, especially on the left cylinder

If you buy it, get the brakes bled and valve check at a dealership and have the shaft recall done at the same time

Do the oil, plugs and filters yourself and you’ll have a cheap GS

These bikes seem to be much more reliable when they are used rather than the odd weekend run.

You wouldn't think anything of a car with the same sized engine with 60k

Also was looking at this bike. More money but lower miles and looks a nice example...

True, plus lots of service history helps.

Though I would probably go for the second one you have found
I do really like it, only downside I can see is no panniers and non-dealer so can't trade my Tiger in. Looks a great example though.

Both bikes look fine, and the first one looks very good for the mileage so is likely to have been well looked after. Just to add to the list of things to check - at those ages & mileages I'd check whether the shocks have been refurbed or replaced. If not, or not sure, then perhaps factor in a refurb cost at some point (eg with TTech).

My 06 GSA was still on the original front brake pads at 60k :thumby:

Local dealer has offered me a very fair price for my Tiger 800. Therefore I'm no longer relying on the trade in. Am I right in thinking the 2nd bike is a nice example and for less than 900 more probably the better buy? Only downside I can see is it doesn't come with any panniers.

Imho it’s a buyers market at the moment and I’d probably go for the second one offering £5k for it to start with.

Good luck 👍

That's what I was thinking. I can see he has already reduced it from £6100 to £5400 but it's the wrong time of the year and I know a lot of things aren't selling. If I could get it for £5k that seems like a lot of bike for the money. He sent me a walkaround video and there's pretty much no corrosion at all. Plus the TE model with quickshifter appeals. It does need a service though, which I'd do myself.
