The hill assist on my 2024 Trophy is just not working as intended.

It doesn’t come off smoothly, if at all. I let the clutch bite, give it a bit of throttle and it just doesn’t disengage. I sometimes have to tap the back brake to get it to release.

The flashing orange H also never appears at all, it just goes from on to off.

Do you think this is a mechanical problem that I could look at myself or is it a dealer software problem?

Or alternatively am I doing something stupid. This isn’t my first BMW with this feature but the first with this problem.

I had an RT LC with that feature and soon gave up trying to disengage it by pulling away. To avoid stalling took massive revs and loads of clutch slipping.
So I reverted to giving the brake another hard squeeze to disengage it.

When set to automatic mode mine would only engage when pointing down hill.

Is your 1300 still under warranty, if so I'd book it in to get it sorted. I've had 3 bikes with it, a 2018 1200 GS, a 2020 1250 GS and now a 2023 1250 RS and it's got better with each one

Something wrong - my 2021 1250GS has a very smooth hill-hold release, I'd expect the 1300 to at least as good.

^^^^^^^^take off as normal, use it all the time. I can't imagine they changed it on the 1300.

My bike has it and I've used it once and i nearly dropped my bike with the wife on the back.

A mate of mine used it and it released unexpectedly on a steep hill, his bike went backwards, he pulled the front brake and it just skidded backwards.
What saved him was the van behind him!

HS is not fit for purpose IMO

Agree, what's wrong with holding it on the brake?

Brilliant on my 1250. Has saved me from dropping it a couple of times.
I use it every ride without any issues.
Maybe take it in for investigation and recalibration.

Never really had any issues with the hh on my 2023 RS.
It engages easily and releases at the first hint of throttle and is almost seamless although I seem to remember the hh on my previous 2020 RS needed throttle and clutch abuse to make it release.

My current RS was serviced recently and perhaps there was a software update. Might be worth speaking with your dealer to see if they can update yours.

After having the RS for a week now, I thought I would have a brief read of the Owners Manual. Tried Hill Assist a couple of times (now I know how to operate it) and it seems fine to me and could be very useful.
I only got the Manual out as I suspected the Self Canceling Indicators were working inconsistently🤔
Now I know they are touch sensitive.

I've noticed that some members of this forum are a touch sensitive ;)

Because it has a system fitted which allows a rest, and should work properly.

When I was 2 I was pissing the bed…….things move on

What’s wrong with having a British 60s bike that pisses out oil regularly,

or a 70s Italian bike that has an electrical system designed by a strategically shaved chimp……

Answer ………….we don’t have to now.

Mine is ‘abrupt’ but because I know it will happen I just ride around the issue by holding a few more revs and being gentle with the clutch.

My 1250 worked perfectly. The current 1200 LC will stall unless you get the revs up high to the point I don’t use it any longer

My tiger 1200 and Rocket 3 systems work perfectly, and they are a godsend waiting on an incline, up or down.

I use them all the time.

If I was Fred Flinstone, maybe not….

None of my bikes have Hill Hold Assist. I manage to get by all these years.
and they are far better for it - first bit of rubbish to turn off when you buy a bike with this obstacle to safe riding - the next one you don't want is shift assist

there's a big clue when you walk up to any bike - if you don't put a key in and turn it to start it - walk away, your life will be much better without that hell
