Hill Start Control light permanently ON

Was out yesterday with a mate on his new to him R1250RT. We discussed how the HSC works then discovered it did not work on his RT. Also with the engine running the white H letter in a circle on the dash is permanently ON.
The rear wheel spins ok with no brakes applied. Front or rear brake applied work as they should but HSC is not braking the rear wheel however hard the front brake lever is applied.
It was a private purchase so not a case of returning to the dealer to sort.
Anyone have any thoughts of how this can be sorted out?

As all of this stuff is software driven I imagine he needs to attach a GS911 to it to see what error codes it throws up.

Page 87 of my user manual states that the white H symbol permanently ON is a reminder that HSC Pro has been switched off.

The user manual is downloadable if your friend does not have one. I get the dealer to stamp mine when it is being serviced.

I believe hill start can be switched on/off via the dashboard menus... it can on my 2017 GS at least
