Hillclimb bainbridge Wed August 14 at 6pm

Another hillclimb in the offing, a few from here going anyway, any interest in the 'touring' class


The details are:-

Motor bike event back by popular demand after 30 years. A MOTORBIKE race will return to a Dales village after more than 30 years due to popular demand.

The Bainbridge and District Motor Club has reinstated the once-renowned hill climb, and will be held just outside the village on Wednesday,August 14 at 6pm .

Club chairman Tom Fawcett said he had received lots of interest from local members of the community that remember the race when it was an annual event in the 1970s.

He said: “Bainbridge held a sports event that was really big and had a lot of motor categories.

“There used to be a motor bike scramble and the hill climb turned out to be one of the most famous parts of it.

“We have got permission from a local land owner and aim to do this one as a kind of trial run to see how popular it is – but already I have had lots of people asking about it who remember it from before.”

There will also be a motor show as part of the event with all classes of motorbikes, cars and tractors on display.

The hill climb is open to all classes of motor bikes, including trial bikes, scramble bikes and touring bikes.

Mr Fawcett said: “Riders will get at least four runs of the hill – it is an adrenalin rush and there is skill involved because you have to keep you weight forward so the bike doesn’t tip up.

“It is also about speed and getting the best time.”

Entrants should arrive at 5pm at Bainbridge sport field, which is on the A684 around 250 yards outside Bainbridge towards Hawes, on the right hand side.

5.Modern trials
6.Modern motocross / Enduro / trials bikes
7.Open class, to include grass track racers and side cars

Route?

Evenin all,
Hoping to go to this, work permitting, and then going to doss down with my parents who are caravanning in Gargrave, nr Skipton.
So i'm hoping someone with local knowledge can recommend the best route from the event, to Gargrave please?
Basically I am looking at the B6255 and B6479 to Horton in Ribblesdale and Settle to pick up the A65,

OR heading back along the A684 to Aysgarth to pick up the B6160 across to Buckden,Kettlewell and Grassington.

Probably going to be a 450 mile day with work mileage included so a less taxing route for this final leg would be good......if poss.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

That's the most interesting, Park Rash Nr Kettlewell is impressive - but not easiest for pushing on, though unlikely to be busy

Hmmm, that low cloud got so close it felt a lot like rain
Although, when I reached Leeds, the roads were saturated so I think we got the better deal!

But despite the cloud, it was a fun show & with the excellent turn-out I'm sure it'll happen again next year

As we rode further west the views closed in as the clouds started to shroud the hills and the distant views...hmmmm...

I could see JB starting to fumble about closing ventilation zips on his jacket as we rode on.

We'd all taken the liberty of setting out with liners as it was warm and rain wasn't forecast til after dark (Bev told me Radio York had said otherwise, but she didin't mention it until we'd arrived at Bainbridge ).

It was strange to ride straight up without suddenly slewing off down the odd lane or two - but John wouldn't want to test out the new toy so soon and I doubt Bev would have fancied two-up on some of the over-grown or bouldery routes we passed...or me either of course.

As we came into the lovely hamlet that Bainbridge is I was a bit bemused by the amount of cars abandoned all over the place - they must have something else on too I thought. WRONG all here for the hillclimb

It was only about 18:30 and there was no parking. I naively expecte m/cs would at least get parked in the field but we were stopped on the gate - JB had 'gone in to turn round' and not reappeared - a wise man

We looked for a spot on the verge but the verges were full right down the hill for 1/4 a mile both sides. Amazing.

Anyway we found a clearing outside the vets and parked up wishing we had plaggy bags for the helmets not due to the 'mist', but to the earthworms sliming across the grass

And so the event.

I don't know whether they expected the crowds (parking facilities would suggest not) but as there was no entry fee just a bucket for donations (Did JB pop back???) we wandered in to find plenty of nice safe places the bike could have been left why they didn't let two-wheelers in as obviously it's not as easy for us to park especially with all apparel - anyway LEAVE IT Fritz Move on...

There was crowd aplenty (unlike Kilburn hillclimb) a beer tent, food, a bit of a clssic show and lots and lots of people - I know, but I was genuignly amazed compared to the Kilburn event.

Whilst looking for the errant JB we eyed the bikes etc on show.

Couple of lovely Harleys, very nice indeed - not sure what reg those are though?

Lots of lovely old brit iron, don't often see DOTs and there was a slew...owners club...lovely turn out.

This baby in the trakoor section was something else.

The errant JB had reappeared and we unearthed a long lost friend, Jez is still alive and well, and we met Elle for the first time (hello )

John's great agricultural experience meant he could tell us about the trackors as well as hold 'discussions' with Jez about what Costworth or 205 that was...christ I thought we were bikers

Anyway this four (big) wheel drive monster was a lovely restoration..not easy to use though I suspect.

The mist was getting wetter, as the artistic shot of the HRG cap shows - being a biker I'd never heard of a 205 P Jez) never mind a HRG. Very interesting Co though stuff here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HRG_Engineering_Company great to see so many of there cars are still on the road - impressive.
