I’ve tried the normal style bivvy and they’re ok if you’re cold, tired and past the point of caring but any other time they’re shit. I don’t mind my one man Goretex tent which is only a glorified bivvy when all is said and done but at least you get a porch you can cook in.

The only thing going for a bivi (hooped or standard) in no matter had bad the weather gets, things don't (can't) get worse.

I bought one for use in the Alps when I was young and misguided enough to sleep on glaciers rather than pay the outrageous prices demanded for cable cars up to the Midi. It wasn’t a good experience but it was character building :D

During my obsession of buying military equipment, I found myself bidding on a US military (unused) human remains bag.
The ex missus just thought it was another bivi bag. :D
Even I thought this might take a bit of explaining if things went bad, so pulled out of the race. :thumb
