Mine was always stalling. One time it threw me off in Birmingham rush hour when I was trying to turn right. I moved about 2 yards then BANG and down went the bike. A bus had to wait while I hauled it back up and off the road. Not good.

I fitted a used PC5 which was set for a bike of similar spec to mine. It has dramatically improved the stalling, power and smoothness. It's running a little too rich so I must get it sorted.

Mine stalled twice today on the way to work....both times as I'm approaching a junction.

Bikes back to stock just now in prep for my visit to Geoff tomorrow. I've got over 300 miles each way to do so plenty of time to make up my mind what I think on the way home. Looking forward to getting it sorted now just hoping for Some dry weather ;-)

In what way did you put it back to stock and why? I had mine remapped in the configuration I wanted i.e Remus headers and Akra can. The system will adjust when you swap things over but it would be optimised for the hardware configuration set when its done.

Hello. This discussion is interesting. If I have understood correctly (I rarely do) GS1200 BMW runs very lean and remapping makes the mixture richer. Can you wise people tell me how remapping affects the octane demand. Background: I often visit Russian countryside where I frequently have to fill the tank with low octane fuel. Many of you seem to have remapped your bikes, any problems with low octane gasolin?

You shouldn't have a problem. I run mine in the US and Canada a lot and some of the junk coming out of the pumps out there is probably on a par with Russian fuel.

Its had the power commander 5 taken off because I'm getting hilltopped tomorrow.... So back to how it came out the factory until I get to Geoff

That makes sense - I doubt you'll notice much difference between the two if your PC5 was set up correctly but you'll be junking all the hardware and extra connectors that might fail when you least want them to.

Not given this much thought, but - why not leave the PC on for now, and ask Geoff to do a quick power-run? Then take it off and get the bike re-mapped. It'll take a few minutes more, but He could be agreeable?

I have had a couple of bikes remapped over the years, & it does make a difference to how sweetly they run, & affects the performance positively too, done right.
It is not rocket scientist material to see that, much as an old carbed & points bike of years gone by would have seen a benefit for being set up with the right timing & dwell, & the correct jets & float height for the state of tune & gas flow/ restriction.
Nowadays manufacturers struggle to meet the demands of noise & emissions regs, & can only do so by providing a less than ideal fuel & spark setup on most internal combustion engines, so a good tuning tech will have plenty of scope to improve the way our machines perform.
Anyone who refuses to see the logic in that & other comments on the thread can only be after a wind up, giving them credit for the ability to free thinking of course...

That's the thing it wasn't set up right and dyno time was £180. Add to that £225 odd for the pc5 and that equals hilltop.

Pc5 is already off the bike hence the stalling wouldn't want to ask him to do that anyway would feel like I was asking him to spill his secrets. I'm happy to just be remapped without any add ons or junk.

You going to brim it and work out actual fuel used when you get there and the same when you get back? Journey that distance would be a good indicator to start of with.

Literally just in the door....been out the house for sixteen hours twelve in the saddle and my Arse is a bit sore.

Was it worth it?.....Definitely
Feels like a new bike it's got more grunt like you'd expect bhp and torque but low revs it's crazy. Silky smooth and the thing I've also noticed is a lot of the vibration has gone from the engine. Geoff and his lad where first class great lads the pair of them. I've video'd my run so I'll upload it to YouTube and post the link later.

Good lad....well done....good to have a comparison without willy waving....pour yourself a big large one!

Know how you feel did a 904 mile round trip last week....and that was in the car!!

Very good advice, Andres.

Roger - e-mail Geoff at Hilltop directly, then you will get technical answers rather than anecdotes. I suspect, by the style of your posts - that you won't, however.

I've written a note to Geoff at Hilltop and emailed it. Will report what I learn if they're willing to discuss it, which understandably they may not be.

Look. I'm sure you are far cleverer than I when it comes to nuts and bolts, but all I'm really interested in is whether or not the 350 smackers is a good investment or not.......so far it seems so.

Cammys contribution is by far the best, because he has tried the PC5, and has then been 'hilltopped'. I look forward to his evaluation of this simple modification. After he's had a kip.

A ride report will do....

Massive respect for going there and back in a day!!

Why does it bother you so much Roger? It's not like you are going to ride over from Boston to get yours done.

If I were Geoff at Hilltop, I would tell you to fuck right off and point you to the 99.9% of happy customers he has.
