Whilst I appreciate that sightings of the 450 are few and far between, I haven’t seen any pictures of one with a third party GPS device mounted to it.

From the machine that I had a pretty good look at, at the London motorcycle show, places to mount one (let alone its cradle and support) seemed to be um…. Er….. limited.

Looks like something could be rigged up to mount on the scaffolding at the front of the bike up and over the clocks or to the tank protection bar/clock mounting??

Somebody (like Givi) will come up with one using the screen mounts to sit just above the clocks, I reckon?
Similar setup to my V85TT by Givi, works good 👍 Screenshot_20240327_224807_eBay.jpg

Something like this would fit on the handlebar clamps. Don't think it will be long before there's one available.

Maybe, but there is not a lot of room between the bar clamps and the ignition and the angles might be wrong?

Likewise you can’t use the steering column (as I do on my 1600) as the handlebar tube covers it.

It might be that the built in GPS / navigation display is good for bespoke routes (such as might be created in MyRoute) rather than crude and very simple, take me from A to B requests? I haven’t read too much about it.

The screen does look quite neat. If it will take bespoke routes, job done.

This video is in foreign but it gives a pretty good overview:

Looks very neat .....could mount the phone on the bars with a Quadlock

A well sorted and improved Himi 411 coming up for sale shortly. Keep your eyes peeled folks.

The display’ built in navigation, does look like a half baked solution (I might be totally wrong) at the moment. From a first glance, it seem to be Google maps based, whilst also only working via RE app. Meaning that MRA routes might be a non starter. In a similar fashion as KTM app on my bike. I’ve used it twice to get exactly from A to B.

From what I understood (and I do not speak Hinglish), that there is a problem with displaying the map on 450’ dash…
  • An iPhones display must be permanently turned on, in order to be able and see the map of the dash, the moment that the phone is locked or it does indeed go to sleep (self lock), the map does disappear from the dash, leaving you with only a basic turn by turn navigation prompts inside a tiny roundel. Displaying a type of turn and a distance to said turning*.
…or changing things in the fly.
  • You can’t do that, as map on the phone is locked. (must be a safety feature)
  • My understanding is such, that you would need to cancel the exiting navigation and start from scratch, if for example you wanted to add a via point. Sounds like a faff. You perhaps future updates will expand on the functionality and integration with other navigation apps.
* I do recall Norally (Itchy Boots) having a go with navigating, whilst using the app, I’ve noticed that it kept coming on and off throughout the video…

She actually stated in the video, at 15.24mins in, that she switched the navigation off from the display because she didn't need it...............

I've downloaded the RE app and will have a go when I bring the bike home, hopefully next week. However I've two Garmins loaded up with routes for Germany in June. A mount on the handlebars will do pro tem but something like Wrapping's Indian mount will be the longer term solution.

That’s a wrap.

I suspect that the 450’s navigation is very basic. I know from personal experience on the 2022 year BMW 1600, running BMW’s much more sophisticated ‘in-house’ navigation through the bike’s own wi-fi channel *, that it’s very hard to beat a dedicated GPS device from Garmin / TomTom and / or a phone running something like MyRoute’s app via CarPlay. That is maybe not surprising as Garmin and the like have benefited from a good head start.

* The wi-fi is needed to bring the map across from the phone.

“Joysticky”…. Love it.

Good for A to B routes, using Google maps.

Bar the route map appearing on the instrument screen, it looks pretty much like the existing Royal Enfield ‘Navigation’. You can build bespoke routes in Google maps but it’s hard work (if you know what I mean) in the Royal Enfield app. Having the app import a bespoke GPX route, created in say MyRoute, BaseCamp or Kurviger and then run and display that, would have been very good. Maybe that will come with the all but inevitable cruise control, quick shifter and keyless ride :D

At some point I’ll put a mount for my Garmin on my Interceptor but meanwhile I’ll carry on using my Beeline which does the job and takes under 5 minutes to fit from scratch. Ok, you can’t download routes but when you consider 90% of my bike touring is of the follow my nose and blue skies method it’s perfectly adequate.
