Well you know how it goes bike goes in for a service, guy gives it a proper service and a check over and points out its got 3-4mm play in the back wheel\bevel drive....

So questions are is £150 a fair price for replacing both bearings and the big outer seal inc labour parts etc - TBH I thought it seemed fair enough? Probably more importantly - is it safe to use for a weekend away 3 maybe 400 miles ish?

Its as safe as any bearing that is failing.

It could last 3000 miles it could last 3 and lock up putting you under a bus. Why take the risk, its not a long job to fix.

The bearing on my 1150 needed replacing on a recent trip to the Dolomites. BMW dealer in Bolzano charged me 210 euros, so £150 isn't out of the way. Get it done I say, you really don't want a rear wheel wobble.:thumb2

I'd change it. It sounds a fair price.

Are you sure it's the FD bearings and not the paralever?

TBH i'm taking the guy who did the service (Mick Hendrick) advice he seems really genuine and very knowledgable. Its definitely got play at the rear wheel when you hold the top and bottom of the wheel and rock it theres approximately 2-4 mms play.

In fairness to Mick he suggested just doing the inner bearing however I thought seeing as its in bits he might as well do them both.
