HMS Ark Royal, Northumbria Quay, North Shields.

Have you given up with trip reports:(.......................bit lazy:augie

Linking to a photo album, with no text is a bit of a cop out

We like words and pics here:thumb

:D:D

She's there until Tuesday afternoon. Show me how it's done.

Driving a few miles down the road and walking around a ship does not constitute a trip to me......and I don't think words would've added much, if anything.

You're welcome,

:comfort

Just noticed you did the same with your pics of the Welland Weekend, that's all

Thought you'd gone soft, on your usual high standards:D

Again, I thought words weren't required: Tossers in a pub, camping or at a brewery.

It's a Tonka toy!

Now this, this is an Ark Royal!

Great photos, brings back memories for me, served on Illustrious during the Falklands conflict.
May well pop down tomorrow and have a nose around.

A few snaps in a slide show: Ark Royal

Wonderful and sad, all at the same time.

:jager

A shame to see her decomissioned. Does anyone know if she will be mothballed or sold off?. My son joins Illustrious in December (in refit) I suppose there will be no shortage of spares now the Ark,s going, (higher screen, Adventure Captains seat and possibly heated anchors).

I found my binoculars ...under the bed

Wanted to take them with me...never mind...last Harrier off The Ark this arvo.

:(

Great pics, thanks. Odd that the Queen has had to attend the farewell to Ark Royal and Britannia with no credible alternatives. I can see that both ships were outdated but to cut them off without a plan is sad.

very sad.

The ship and the aircraft may have had their day, but as there is no current viable alternative it seems like a great shame and an awful waste.

The end of an era, and hopefully not proven to be an error........

Navy warships have been designed (since the end of the 2nd world war) with a target life of 40 years in service.

It seems crazy to scrap this after only 25 years :eek
